Today is the last day of good ole Millipore. Tomorrow its EMD Millipore. Such a bittersweet day.

EU Clears Merck KGaA (EMD in USA and Canada)To Buy Millipore

The European Commission Wednesday cleared German pharmaceutical and chemical company Merck KGaA (MRK.XE) to buy U.S. laboratory and biotech supply company Millipore (MIL) for $7.2 billion, including debt.

Biotech equipment maker Millipore Corp. said Thursday its shareholders have approved the company's $6 billion sale to German drug and chemical maker Merck KGaA.

With Merck's acquisition of Millipore looking like a done deal, thoughtful people might look to Serono as a model of what may happen at Millipore. Would any Serono employees who have been with the company since before January 2007 be willing to comment on what changed aside from adding EMD to the company name- culture, strategy, benefits, etc?
