These things actually happen in Hopkinton. The Don T.R. expects you to kiss his fat pinky ring before you sit in conference with him about matters pertaining to operations at the site. Sad he never made it out to Hollywood!

Moltisanti didn't have the stones to bust up T. Wasn't Bobby Bacala that kicked his @ss up at the lake? For Soprano fans I think Tone Loc is more like Vito Spatafore, we know he likes to dress up in the leather Village People outfit and hit the gay bars when he visits N.J. We also think he will be skipping town in the next few episodes of the Hopkinton crime drama.Jonny Cakes Anyone?
How are the Hopkinton projects coming along?I hear Balt. PD is all done and gone are the new PD labs open for Business? They were also revamping one of the existing MFG trains and installing more trains from Baltimore, is this project (or projects) completed yet?Curious people looking for jobs want to know (aka potential future Lonza employees) Someone let us know what the real story is.Much Appreciated! Thanks
Baltimore PD is now just a memory. New labs are running a little behind schedule but will be opening soon. The revamp of MFG should be done by summer and the expansion by the end of the year. The site has its issues, like any other, but if you can ignore and stay clear of the bulls#$%(easier said then done), fand ocus on the job its a good place to work. Key word being "work". Not a place if you want a cush job and easy pay.

Hey, picking on JH could be fun but I haven't worked with him yet but that's going to change soon enough. I found this post on a very active tread titled "HUMAN RESOURCES" and since it applied to Lonza Hopkinton I thought I would paste it over here so no one would miss it, its funny and Yes, we have to work with this dolt in Hopkinton as well! Time to tune up the resume folks! You couldn't make this Sh1t up!__________________________________________________________________________________________________Quote:Ours is known to all as the Grinning Assassin__________________________________________________________________________________________________Ours in Lonza Hopkinton is affectionately know to all as Atilla the Hun. Dumb as all the rest in this post and untrustworthy to boot! She lies like a rug but that could be more of a cultural thing than an HR thing... For now she's got the ear of the King but that can't last as stupidity eventually shines through the BS screen.__________________________________________________________________________________________________I know who you refer to ( A.V.), the Swiss hired her so I doubt she will get fired. A woman (we think), over forty and a minority she would have a very nice little discrimination case against Lonza. They will need to watch carefully and pull the trigger when she slips up or screws up royally. Wait - That's when Lonza promotes you! Duh, sorry! Sorry, she is there to stay!

Ok, I know everyone likes to rag on JH, but considering his "peer group"--he's the best of the bunch at that level. There's a lot of people, in every group/department, who are far worse than him & their continued employment at Lonza is nothing short of amazing. It's too bad that when the rumored layoffs finally come, it won't be those people that get canned (the last round of layoffs at Lonza demonstrated that amply. In fact, most of those incompetants are survivors from that time) Lonza could actually be a semi-decent place to work if they didn't insist on keeping the idiots and the kiss-ups. Oh wait, that can pretty much be said about any company we talk about here, couldn't it?

The real let down for the Hopkinton crew is that a certain JackA$$ from Portsmouth is on going to be taking over certain responsibilities in Hopkinton. If anyone on the rumor mill remembers all the Portsmouth Posts that mentioned hiring your parents, drinking too much, working too little, golfing too much and/or sleeping around too much then you hit the A$$ right on the head, the infamous J.H. will be making his return visit to the rumor mill and it should be interesting. They didn't used to.
And to the previous post about Lonza Hopkinton being "world class"....and corporate giving you a chance to shine...I would not say the site was world class (maybe it will be) I have seen strict PD only groups that were run better and produced much better data and stuck to time lines (Hopkinton has always had a weak analytical group, no offense. Lonza is not consistent from site to site at all. Yes, the Swiss are attempting to make every satellite site run the same, but with extremely limited success--because they're trying to make every site, no matter what they make, run exactly like Visp. While it's a fine corporate theory for people at the top to throw around, it simply doesn't work in the real world. There's at least one customer which has realized that the people in Visp have no idea what they're doing and ordered Lonza to do something that I'm sure irritated the corporate types more than anyone thought possible. It's an open secret that I'm sure will get thrown in Visp's face every chance possible.
I didn't say it was going to work.....still makes my statement of what Lonza Corporate is TRYING to do, true.this is biotech...all bets are off....it's wacky by nature...

I wonder if Lonza is still on budget for tranferring bad clients from Baltimore and getting the Hopkinton site into the 21st century. I am sure the answer is "no" just becasue there are always things that come up or are not planned for..but it is a good indicator of how much "studying" was done before this deal all went down.I imagine there are many issues going on with this deal. I am sure that the Hopkinton folks have their "head in a vice". It is really difficult to maintain the current processes while expanding the plant and hiring staff to fill the voids. New staff are actually a bigger drain on the current "trained" staff until they get up to speed.Hopkinton was/is a tight knit group. People have been in some positions for a long, long time. Good or bad, I think the big hurdle will be getting these people to adapt to new ways or methods. They are creatures of habit. For the record, I am not knocking them. Their methods worked enough and got them through clients, tough financials and Cambrex. But there are some serious problems in that the rest of the market knows that the Hopkinton site is out dated in some equipment, techniques and systems. Blame it on Cambrex if you want, still doesn't change the facts.Lonza, in my opinion of course, does not want a "mom and pop" shop. When you have a small group you can do things differently and count on people you have worked with for years. When you run 24/7 and 90+ staff over multiple shifts, the "manual" methods have to go....good luck Hopkinton. How well the "old guard" can adapt to this remains to be seen. It is going to suck for a while. Learn to use automation. Hopefully Lonza pays for business class flights to Visp. Now there is a genius MFG person talking... So you don't need PD nor do you don't need a product pipeline into MFG? Interesting, can you support your site and all it's new overhead on strickly your commercial production? I think not. You need both the clinical work and you need the PD work; maybe you should open your eyes and learn a little before you speak or maybe your site management should be doing a better job of informing you where the keys to future success lies. Take a look around you are not building a "world class" commercial facility anymore than Baltimore was.

I wonder if the minimally transported PD group in Hopkinton will be able to pick up the task or if the old Hopkinton group, primarily Hopkinton manufacturing, will succeed in squashing their initiative. Anyone in Hopkinton PD want to comment? Is anyone going up there at all?"
That is because Hopkinton does not need PD. Hopkinton is bringing in mature manufacturing processes and making money on full manufacturing, not these stupid little one-off clinical manufacturing batches. That is why Lonza closed Baltimore and kept Hopkinton.

We also think he will be skipping town in the next few episodes of the Hopkinton crime drama.Jonny Cakes Anyone?

New labs are running a little behind schedule but will be opening soon. The revamp of MFG should be done by summer and the expansion by the end of the year. The site has its issues, like any other, but if you can ignore and stay clear of the bulls#$%(easier said then done), fand ocus on the job its a good place to work. Key word being "work".
Lonza Hopkinton (formerly Cambrex)

While it's a fine corporate theory for people at the top to throw around, it simply doesn't work in the real world. There's at least one customer which has realized that the people in Visp have no idea what they're doing and ordered Lonza to do something that I'm sure irritated the corporate types more than anyone thought possible. The bar will be set high to recoupe the cost overruns.
You know, you sound like you know a lot about Lonza, but this part simply isn't true. Not all Lonza sites run the same.

(at least)And to the previous post about Lonza Hopkinton being "world class"....and corporate giving you a chance to shine...I would not say the site was world class (maybe it will be) I have seen strict PD only groups that were run better and produced much better data and stuck to time lines (Hopkinton has always had a weak analytical group, no offense. It's just not their strength)Hopkinton was a relatively affordable manufacturer and that was its strength. Not everyone has deep pockets. Compromises always have to be made. But make not mistake, your head will be on the block if you don't bend to the Lonza way. They will not compromise the "Lonza system" because clients who have worked with them before, know they are consistant form site to site. Sure you can shine, but you will be cut if you drop the ball.
Someone called for this reply several posts back but no one had the balls to pen a post, Hmmm? Well here it is folks; Portsmouth is struggling a bit, too few clients, too much capacity and to many workers so the "A - Number One son" (said with tongue firmly in cheek) and the subject of oh so many "Hardy Boy & Nancy DoNothing mysteries" is moving down to Hopkinton. His management, peers and subordiantes in Portsmouth are happy to see him go and the funny thing is that the Microbial business is being told that he is "Ready for the Challenge", What a joke! Ready with what? He has no Microbial experience or upstream of any sort, $ucks as a manager and has no capital project experience - Brilliant! He will lead you all to success! Just wait and see! HeeHee HaaHaa the jokes on you Hopkinton! The theme song "Here comes Juerg's Scapegoat" is playing now...
Sounds like he was hand picked for the job and none too soon. After all it's not easy to replace the leaders that won't be making the trip to Hopkinton with persons of the same mold. Congratulations to those in Hopkinton responsible for making it happen and congratulations to the Portsmouth folks for your loss.
