They used to be #1 in the US and the world in diagnostics, then their leaders left, the FDA moved in and total incompetence followed. They continue to lose good talent and have mediocre products. And again as they did two years ago, they cut their customer-facing departments, while continuing to be so top-heavy they keep falling over themselves. The most recent reduction of 200 has established Roche as probably the only $1billion organization that does not have a true customer service department, or leader. Instead of going from "good to great", they've gone from "great to desperate".

Very sad news about the share
Very sad news about the share price. The price reflects the total incompetence of SS. He has managed to remain in power despite a dismal track record of making one bad hiring decision after another. Severin is an extraordinarily arrogant man. Unfortunately he will have to be humbled in the brutal environment of the market place. Roche should cut their losses and fire him ASAP.
The Roche share price
The Roche share price continues to be pummeled...and today fell below their 52 week low!
Agree.
Agree.
Duplication of test offering
Duplication of test offering will result in some consolidation of testing. The result would likey be less systems sold, but reagent sales should remain around the same (assuming that there is sufficient test capacity with the current installed base). i don't see much of an affect though, as genzymes testing was less routine commodity Dx and more routine esooteric and reference lab type testing.
What is the effect, if any,
What is the effect, if any, of LabCorp buying Genzyme Genetics

This is a polite reminder that RMD Pleasanton days are numbered. Pleasanton's activities will soon be absorbed into Branchberg and Rotkreuz, and announcements for the closure of this campus will be happen in 2011. I would get your resume out ASAP as this is a lousy time to be looking for a job.

bonus and profit sharing---yeah right
Pay plans will be held steady
Pay plans will be held steady no merrit increase with fewer people receiving bonus. By frustrating you they hope you will leave on their own then they won't have the unpleasent task of cutting you and paying a severence. Of course this is stickly speculation; but pretty standard protocol for large companies.

Don't forget our "harmonization" project. I am sure we are going to get the high salaries and benefits the pharma folks get, right? Any ideas on the changes coming to the pay plans?

5 posts short of a 1000
5 posts short of a 1000 replies and this thread keeps rolling. With Roche still struggling to find some leadership, Beckman absolutely burning to the ground, Ortho having the worst comp plan in the industry and hardware problems galore, and Abbott still being Abbott, where is there good to work these days?

Understand where you are
Understand where you are coming from; but be glad you have a job! They got rid of a lot of good people and only succeeded in lowering moral; but that is nothing when you find out you don't have a job despite having great reviews. Take the time to look while you are employed; be happy you are getting a check.

I can not tell you how
I can not tell you how horrible it has become to work at Roche in Indy. I am in my nineteenth year there and enjoyed it until Martin Madeous (sp?) moved on. Profit sharing died then, no more Christmas turkey and daily threats with losing my job. Ned Campbell was at least fair but when he left life at Roche became a living hell. I just hope I am offered a severance so I can leave this hell hole.

You weren't invited to the parties then. There was a lot of partying going on at BMC/RDC in the "old" days. There was a lot of "hooking up" before we called it hooking up. There are some married couples still working there from the "hook-ups" and these people were not necessarily single when they were having their flings etc. And yes, you humble naive sould who spent 30 years working for the company, it was going on that long ago too. The parties were legendary, the alcohol flowed like water and Orlando. Well, who could forget those meetings in Orlando? The newer management, the MTs and ATs you speak of and DDs in Diabetes Care, they took this company on the downward spiral--but it has been happening for many years.
I will say that BMC, (and now
I will say that BMC, (and now Roche), did have their share of shallow men that did those things. MT was one of them, no doubt. There were a couple of VP of Sales that were unethical too, (but I'm going back 10 years on that).

I've been with BMC/Roche for 30+ years. I knew Hubert and AT. (ps...you spelled Hubert's name wrong). There is no way that AT or Hubert ever cut loose and acted unethical during their stays at BMC/Roche. Simply wasn't in their blood. Never. They never went to "those" bars either.

Today, Roche upper management is very good. My only complaint is that it's always changing at the top. Average life-span of a VP, Senior VP, President, CEO, is less than a Huey gunner in Vietnam...
I fondly remember the orgies
