Roche Diagnostics downward spiral

They used to be #1 in the US and the world in diagnostics, then their leaders left, the FDA moved in and total incompetence followed. They continue to lose good talent and have mediocre products. And again as they did two years ago, they cut their customer-facing departments, while continuing to be so top-heavy they keep falling over themselves. The most recent reduction of 200 has established Roche as probably the only $1billion organization that does not have a true customer service department, or leader. Instead of going from "good to great", they've gone from "great to desperate".

I miss the talking cones.

I miss the talking cones. They weren't around very long. They scared me so much when they started talking that I almost slipped, tripped and fell.

Let's bring back the "talking

Let's bring back the "talking cones" to Indy

The only reason SS is in

The only reason SS is in power is that his wife is somehow a member of the founding families. He certainly has not earned the right to be CEO, and now he is not earning the right to keep the position. I hope the family will wise up and let SS be the CEO for show, but not for smart, hard decisions-other than marrying for money, he is just incapable of smart decisions.

the big decisions at Roche

the big decisions at Roche are made by the board of directors headed my Humer. SS is their "Puppet", and the hope is he will grow into the shoes of a real CEO in less than 10 years. Meanwhile he will act the part to appease the Roche family.

Used to think SS was just

Used to think SS was just very pragmatic; can now see that he is plain dumb.

Apart from chocolates,

Apart from chocolates, overpriced watches and money laundering institutions, what other great contribution have the Swiss given us?
The cuckoo clock! Smug, arrogant blockheads.

It has always been run by

It has always been run by idiots...

Let's bring back the "Trusted

Let's bring back the "Trusted and Caring Leadership" program to Roche Indy.

Going forward Roche will be

Going forward Roche will be run by idiots.

Going forward Indy will now

Going forward Indy will now be run using Sigma Six

In addition, the Roche stock

In addition, the Roche stock is traded on the Swiss exchange in Swiss Francs. The Swiss franc is tracking the Euro and has lost a lot of value. This has had a large affect on the stock too.

I suspect some execs who thought they could cash these in and make money are now considering leaving because any stock rights are worthless.

The drop in the Roche share

The drop in the Roche share price is directly reflective of the fact that SS has been, and will continue to be, in over his head. He does not have the business maturity or insight to run a company as vast as the Roche group. To top it off, he paid way too much for Ventana, and paid a rich premium for Genetech.

Value destruction is what SS is all about. Maybe he is shorting the stock!

The Roche stock is really

The Roche stock is really hiting bottom. I bet most of the Roche executives stock options are under water.

EXACTLY!!! Why bring WB back

EXACTLY!!!

Why bring WB back when he is the creator of the inefficient, costly, disorganized structure that we are struggling with now? JP better hold him accountable to revisit this mess but this time talk with people who understand the clinical laboratory and what our customers need.

We (in the supply chain) pray

We (in the supply chain) pray everyday that this is true.

Think JP is only the

Think JP is only the beginning of a much larger austerity program

JP: Big mistake with WB. No

JP: Big mistake with WB. No surprise if even he (WB) let MC take the fall for the poor financial performance of the RPS organization. Did WB tell you the entire structure which has done nothing but drive up cost, increase manager positions, remove customer facing positions to fund home office phone positions, and literally upset customers is all his brain child? RPS needs credible leadership, someone who is fresh with new ideas, and not the person who created the same structure which is hurting RDC financially and the customer.

We all get he is failing miserably in the sales role, but putting him back in RPS is not the answer when he holds the accountability for the current state. Big opportunity here to gain support and make the tough, but right decision.

WB: Talk about accountability. Take it yourself. Own your ideas even when they fail. If you are going back to RPS please go directly to customers and do not pass go. Ask how the structure is working for them. Then go to your employees and listen to them since you didn't ask, nor listen, the first time around.

JP is DoD's lacky? More like

JP is DoD's lacky? More like his sock-puppet!

DE? WB?

DE? WB?

Not only is RDC in a mess

Not only is RDC in a mess with DoD's lacky JP...but now DE resigns his post in Switzerland......

Also, JP puts WB into his old position - yet another change in sales leadership! Jeez - who the F**K is this clown?

Roche has its weakest set of management yet - congratulations! Between Pharma and Ventana management we will rule the world of Diagnostics.....NOT!

Roche top management has been

Roche top management has been "sugar coating" the planned obsolescence of the RDC site for several years. Obviously this is good business, since they need to keep the folks who stick around motivated as the slow dismemberment continues.

Worrying about supply chain

Worrying about supply chain should be a top concern. If the people who work 9-12 hour days didn't contribute, Roche wouldn't be in business. All of the up and coming changes, moves, rearranging and the July lay-off announcement has made the warehouse people scared. No one is safe and its been like working in a dramatic pins and needles situation.

No, it is back

No, it is back now.

A message to JP- time to take

A message to JP- time to take off the training wheels and make the tough decisions. There is so much demand for a leader that you will be judged quickly by the organization.

JP is just a tool. He looks

JP is just a tool. He looks like bozo the clown minus the nose & makeup. Notice he did not have the balls or brains to contribute to a major story for the local newspaper about diabetes care division that ran last week. LV and DK did. That story appeared in print only, but did not make it online. Damage control?

With all the Swiss bad

With all the Swiss bad management decisions on RDC leadership since 2005, what makes you think that JP will be any better?

This is not a place (RDC) where they put their brightest and smartest. This is a place where they want a "puppet" to make the tough decisions to downsize the organization, convert to distribution only, and increase the MLO (Money Left Over) to send back to Basel.

This is true....JP cant make

This is true....JP cant make a decision with out consulting DoD.....also leading to this indecisiveness is his 20 micro second attention span.....and oh BTW....when I was at Ventana......!

I thought McCain was being

I thought McCain was being taken out of the picture?

McCain's kids have more power

McCain's kids have more power at Roche than JP.

few others should have going

few others should have going away lunch, too. doubt JP has courage to take out all that should be took out. good start though. everyone talked about janti being a loser.

At least JP is working to

At least JP is working to address the idiots that MT put in positions of power. Yes MT, did utterly destroy the place, with JS endorsing the action and SS sleeping at the wheel. Keep cleaning JP-another person that should have a target on them is WBS-she played the political game and killed anyone who got in her way.

AT did more to increase US

AT did more to increase US market share and customer focus than any VP or CEO before or since. It is a shame that he was not given the reigns to actually lead the company forward and an even greater shame that he was run off by MT.

Marco had to go- too many

Marco had to go- too many bald headed Mr. Clean looking types....

Janti also decided to pursue

Janti also decided to pursue other career opportunities. He and Marco made that decision together, unanimously, at 4p. Coincidence?

No, but I can tell you Marco

No, but I can tell you Marco has decide to pursue other career opportunities..

I heard Bob W. from Ventana

I heard Bob W. from Ventana (formerly from RDC) will replace MMc as head of supply chain? Can anyone confirm?

AT and SSig destroyed value

AT and SSig destroyed value at RDC by giving everything away for nothing!....RDC is still making losses on what those clowns put together.
MT was arrogant but in comparison to JP knew what he was talking about!
JP has big money from the Ventana acquisition and is DoD lackey - he will further destroy RDC and most likely close Indy site. The man has not a clue - all direction coming from DoD himself and his ex boss standing at his side to give him morale support. The shoes look great on him however are a couple of sizes too big!

Heads will roll at RDC.....but replacements will come from Ventana - everything is better at Ventana!
Pity they have not a clue on how to run a big organization which operates in a commodity market.

Easy to deliver bottom line when not investing in people.....what happens when the market turns and equipment is actually being sold again? Who is going to be around to support the customers? JP with his lovely videos? Jeez....and we thought MT was an arrogant ass!

They'll buy their way

They'll buy their way out...no big deal for Roche (assuming they want to stay in the market, or perhaps like BD they want out?)

Roche Diabetes is in a

Roche Diabetes is in a hopeless situation. Even customers are starting to heaar about the interference issues and ask for different meters because they don't understand the limited impact of the intereferences. The rest of the company just suffered from too many people collecting a big fat paycheck while having affairs with each other and otherwise focusing on everything EXCEPT the business. That place is a cess pool.

The problems with the US

The problems with the US organization go back to decisions by HVP, that is why he was fired, followed by worse decisions by SS for the RDC site. SS was the one who decided to cut funding to Diabetes (after the many investment failures), and finding better investment opportunities in Pharma (e.g. Genentech). Bad for RDC, good for Roche.

The strategy for RDC Indy has been decided by Basel (scale back to distribution center), no amount of enthusiasm from the organization will replace the faith Basel had in this organization 5+ year ago. There have been too many dissapointments, failures and leadership issues. Attempts to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic will not be fruitful.

Accept this, make your decisions, and you will be in a much better place in a couple of years. Good Luck, there are a lot of good folks in Indy who can still have very fruitful careers elsewhere.

So what you're saying is that

So what you're saying is that over 4000 cobas 6000 customers are stupid and bought a piece of crap ?

The new cobas 6000: 501 and

The new cobas 6000: 501 and 601-e is a peice of shit! As well as the track system that comes with it!

Who can tell me the

Who can tell me the ops/manufacturing peeps names in Indy. I got Mary, Mike, Luc, John - who else is there? Where does Farley sit? Is Cotton still there? What about Lafayette?

Where did MT end up? Sounds

Where did MT end up? Sounds like he's added to a couple of posts here.

I did do my math, although

I did do my math, although Roche is a Dx giant, and much more so in Pharma, RDC is a pimple on Roche's a**, and shrinking with time. Don't delude yourself into thinking that RDC is anything more than an underperforming unit of a global golliath.

Check your math: Roche is

Check your math: Roche is the global share leader in Dx and is always near the top in market cap for Rx. The firm has been wildly successful, financially. As for Lilly, no clue...

By national standards for

By national standards for Pharma and medical device companies, both Lilly and Roche (RDC) are 2nd tier players. Looking at the global market, both sites are in the minor leagues. Lilly is a Pharma "has been" for nearly 12 years and RDC has squandered it's market position for the last five years. Neither are companies I would be proud to work for.

Who reads The Star anymore?

Who reads The Star anymore? (or rather look who does....) There is a decent Indianapolis Business Journal.

Am sure Lilly was on the top

Am sure Lilly was on the top of the list, but Roche is a little too cosmopolitan and progressive for The Star and their ilk and also not a player in local politics.

The Indianapolis Star

The Indianapolis Star reported the top ten large companies to work for in Indiana. Unlike some years ago Roche did not appear on the list at all. So much for "Best in the Business".
