Roche Diagnostics downward spiral

They used to be #1 in the US and the world in diagnostics, then their leaders left, the FDA moved in and total incompetence followed. They continue to lose good talent and have mediocre products. And again as they did two years ago, they cut their customer-facing departments, while continuing to be so top-heavy they keep falling over themselves. The most recent reduction of 200 has established Roche as probably the only $1billion organization that does not have a true customer service department, or leader. Instead of going from "good to great", they've gone from "great to desperate".

Can we turn the clock back

Can we turn the clock back and have BMC back? Indy was always Indy. But ever since Basel's bankers got involved it has become a train wreck. It is like having a rowboat with 1 guy doing the rowing and 15 guys managing ?)on how that 1 guys should do it, tell him to keep his mouth shut and then blame hime for loosing the race.

Cany someone create a similar

Cany someone create a similar flick with KK and MM from RDO? I know there are a lot of folks out there who feel their leadership skills are only slightly better than MT and the current Diabetes leadership!

Ok Roche Diabetes "fat cats"

Ok Roche Diabetes "fat cats" here's a question. Who has an answer for why the business has tanked in the last few years? Who will face DoD and take responsibility for the lack of communication between sales & marketing? Who will admit they presided over this division while the in-fighting occured? Who will admit the "led" (and I use that term loosley) this organization into this decade with a strategy to stop the death spiral? Who will stand and be accountable for being the people leader who presided over the fallen morale & even the Roche Diabetes sales force not being able to promote their products. Who were the "leaders"? Who admits to presiding over this debacle? Instead of taking a paycheck everyone who set around MT's table at those executive committee meetings, should be walked out the front door. No one had the courage, the integrity, the moral intelligence to say--this guy is running this co. into the ground, and I can't in good conscience see what he is doing to the hard-working loyal people of Roche (BMC). Who ultimately holds really bad, greedy senior management responsible? Who?

Why would Lilly continue to

Why would Lilly continue to take the rejects from Roche? Now that VM has moved on (after doing nothing at Lilly mind you except collecting a salary)I can't believe would help anyone from Roche get a job at Lilly.

More heads to roll for sure.

More heads to roll for sure. But, who? who? would want to work there? It is like the Titanic for sure, and who wants to hop on that ship seeing the direction it is going?

The rapid-fire change in

The rapid-fire change in leadership is not just at Roche but throughout the industry. These CEO last a max of 2 years.

Idny or Switzerland it

Idny or Switzerland it doesn't make a difference. Like most large companies they all become a beaucratic Titanic out of touch and do not want to listen to anyone. Than again they are European, beaucracy as we have it now was invented there. Ask the Siemens guys how they are doing. An other bunch of control freaks in charge.

They just got MT's package

They just got MT's package which needed Viagra to get straight.

MT gone but what happened to

MT gone but what happened to the girlfriends? Did they get packages too?

The new CEO of NA will be the

The new CEO of NA will be the 5th in 7 years. There has been greater than 90 percent turnover in the Commercial Leadership team with some positions turning over 2-3 times in 5 years. Improving the US business is going to take more than cleaning house at the top.

How many did MT fire in Indy

How many did MT fire in Indy and how many did DoD fire in Pleasanton?

To all those who are celebrating: Wake up! The tough times for Indy are only yet to come!

I think there was a

I think there was a celebration party at Sullivan's Friday night. Get ready Indy, this ride isn't finished yet.

No youtube video to

No youtube video to contribute, but it certainly was the quickest Townhall I have seen to date. Six minutes total, followed by clapping when it was all done.

I sure wish I did. If

I sure wish I did. If someone can get a copy please post on YouTube. This was the best news I've heard about this company. I hope the house cleaning of managers happens soon for rdo and rdc!

does anyone have a copy of

does anyone have a copy of the video of MT's resignation?
Also, did he mention or is there any communication on who is interim commander in chief?

Let's start the campaign to

Let's start the campaign to bring Andy back!!!!!

DO - Please keep cleaning

DO - Please keep cleaning house in Indy! Hit VP's, Directors and Managers hard. We are too top heavy and all they do is play politics. Lets get down to business and bring back Diabetes Care. Indy has a lot of talented people - very few talented leaders in management. Most only care about themselves and not the company. Lets turn the ship around and get out of the death spiral.

I wonder if Roche has enough

I wonder if Roche has enough money to get Andy T back. It is not enough to get rid of bad leadership, Roche needs to find some world class leadership to replace the bad.

Let's see the top leaders (if

Let's see the top leaders (if you can call them leaders) finally go down. There is enough life in the workers to succeed. Get rid of the losers now!

This is a "nasty, swollen

This is a "nasty, swollen boil" in the middle of the face of the Swiss....

Other top leaders will fall

Other top leaders will fall next. Basel views the entire top management staff as complicit in the continuing death spiral of the site.

M.T. finally got his gift!

M.T. finally got his gift! "Resigned" today. What a complete, total, utter failure he is. He has categorically DESTROYED Roche in less than 18 months. I hope that the rest of his cronnies, like J-nti M, and other will fall next. Congrats people of the Indy site, you won!

Dan O, Great call. You have sent a very clear message to the Roche group that nasty, incompetent people will not prevail in leadership.

M.T. hope you enjoy your season of unemployment. Word is widespread in the industry that you are an unfit leader for any ethical type of company. Maybe you should look for a career in trash hauling.

We have had a number of

We have had a number of ex-Roche top managers go to Lilly's, remember VM? All have been Roche rejects.

TO is now a Lilly VP for

TO is now a Lilly VP for business development.

No - that means that they

No - that means that they dont have a clue as to how to fix it..keep cleaning... keep cleaning...

I know the party line from

I know the party line from Bsel is that Indianapolis has a future as a diversified (supply chain, R&D, commercial) site. Indianapolis is a transportation hub, and we will see distribution expand with manufacturing, business development and R&D sent elsewhere.

None of the top managers since DW and MM have been able to convince the Swiss that the death spiral for the site is being reversed. While the rest of roche diagnostics globally beats the competion, the US languishes in lost market shares, poor quality products, low R&D productivity- among others.

Read this again. Basel's new

Read this again. Basel's new leadership is planning "difficult cuts for the U.S. diabetes business"
This company has been run in the ground for many years. Incompetent management and so much infighting between sales and marketing and no pressure on R&D in the motherland to bring out competitive products. But, when Boehringer Mannheim was good, it was very very good.

Please don't forget mike

Please don't forget mike Braun
did he get visited by the ghost of roche
past - present and future? Such a poor manager
what a looser, time to take old yeller out back
don't cha think

Does that mean they want to

Does that mean they want to give away the Molecular Diagnostics Market also because they haven't fixed the issues with HCV on Taqman

Another confirmatory point on

Another confirmatory point on Roche wanting to pull out of the US Diabetes testing market is the fact that they have literally given away the US hospital market by not fixing the maltose chemistry issue.

nice and quiet. when does

Regarding the death spiral of

Regarding the death spiral of the US Diabetes Care business...

Surprise, Surprise, the rumor mill has been talking about this for going on 4+ years, and it is obvious that Roche Basel has purposefully not tried to reverse this trend. The business in the US is a cash cow, since the diabetes testing business has become a commodity business with little chance to differentiate products. Coupled with this there has the been the utter failure of the Aviva system to pay pack the initial investment and the loss of the Disetronic business. Bottom line, Roche has much better investment opportunities than Diabetes testing in recent years, and by allowing this business to run it's natural course (without further investments) will facilitate being able to turn Indy into a distribution site only. Think about, first Applied Sciences, then lab diagnostics, had supply chain and R&D scaled way back, it is happening with Diabetes care next. It is a shame that Roche had not been able to build a value-add franchise in insulin pumps nor continuous monitoring. Investments in these areas were made when Roche was still pouring money into the business (4+ years ago).

The funny thing for me to watch is how the attitudes have changed with the folks in Diabetes in the US. 4+ years back they thought they were at the top of the world, and represented the Roche brightest and fastest career climbers. Now they are the 3rd string for the organization. I think this is by design to maximize the cash they can pull from this business as it slowly dies.
