Bio production in Branchburg is redundant with the mega bio production capabilities in Pennzburg Germany. Roche, in the midst of eliminating redundancy and costs would be stupid not to shut the US operation down. Think globally and and like a business person in today's cost climate and the decision is easy to understand. The question is why did it take Roche so long to do this?

More US jobs moving to Germany. This time all of the PCR enzyme production from the Branchburg site. People will suffer, quality will suffer and the local economy will suffer (the loss of the work will also impact the suppliers to Branchburg). So much to be said for the 'Lean' approach. The only thing lean in Branchburg is the thinking behind the decision-making and this will soon drive out the last of the people who had any in-depth scientific understanding of the products and how to make them. The crash will certainly come soon after.
