Wow, it sounds like some of you n the region should step up to take higher level roles in order to run the business. You also may get someone to lead you to new thinking. I doubt it will implode and maybe..just maybe it will get better.

LATAM is the new Frederick. No leadership (GM went to China), lost the best manager in January and another good one in April. Now it´s just backstabbing leaders with no clue about the business. More people on the way out and competitors just waiting for bleeding to get the talents for free.
Amazing how the morons at Carlsbad destroy the region since the merging.

Simply not a chance Grand Island is closed. Too much cGMP manufacturing of products that go directly into existing manufacturing pipelines of FDA approved biologics that are major revenue streams for large pharma. That will not be messed with.

A lot of arrogant people don't know how to do business, and they ignored the opinions from the real capable people.
I am in Singapore, managing two teams consist of testers and software coders. The merge of testers and software coders created tremendous problem:
The salary gap between testers and coders are more than 30%. I have never manage a team doing similar things but while such a BIG salary gap. How am I going to motivate them? Life really sucks.

Life... Too many junior leadership, after IVGN acquired AB. A lot of arogant people don't know how to do business, and they ignored the opinions from the real capable people.
I'm in China, I can tell you what happens in China. In China the whole market is talking us as a funny joke. We declared we go direct, because the leader wanted to gain dealer's margin to increase his total sales revenue. And we hired more than 200 sales person some of them are extremely junior, these new hired or acquired sales brought us heavy burden, because their salary is above market average but contribute very little. Some of them have only 100k annual sales target and stay at home all day. Since China business is way more complicated than US, it's impossible to go direct really. So they still sell to different small dealers but imput in the system by using a customer's name. For the instruments, they declared they built distrubutor network, and then let the distributors have lots of stock to make the number. We are well known in the market by cheating ourselves.

Especially the ION group.
Because they're really kicking some butt. Notice how badly Illumina was hurting after their Q1 results came in.
On a serious note, why would anyone invest in an ION system over the next year? Why go with the company that has 100% uncertainty until 2014? Hanging out there is the possibility that ION gets bundled and sold to a big pharma or diagnostics player that decides to take the technology internal and not support their competition.

I think that the genetic analysis sales force is immune to any layoffs because TMO does not have the sales force to handle such a complex and specialized sell. Especially the ION group.

I have to say that those of you who feel the need to pick on people's personal attributes in order to make yourselves feel better are simply the smallest of the small. Everyone there is doing the best they can under shitty circumstances; no need to make it personal. You make yourself sound so petty, stupid, and thoughtless. I hope they take you first.

Its a smart deal if they can cut enough costs to off-set declining business and sell Ion to Roche for a large premium. It will be interesting to see how Thermo deals with all the borderline practices Lucier has used to keep the earnings looking decent.

It might be a smart deal but people will still lose their jobs all over the world. Panic will set in and huge mistakes will be made. Common ones are - using work pc's/laptops for non-work purposes or some spurious "attitude" problem.
