coming B4 year end.
Beyond the 80-some summarily dismissed on Wednesday in FOS/PLE, more than 100 more were given notice that their job will end in one or two months. Many will soon find tighter quarters in FC. New management teams are all identified. Expect entire departments will be eliminated in the next round. Good times.
Anything going to happen in Europe?
what about Pleasanton?

Anybody let go in Carlsbad?
85-100 gone in the Bay Area.
Guess I am glad that I got out when I did. The market is very tough right now -- Can't say that I miss IVGN and Carlsbad one little bit!

This is one RIF of many to come. AB 4K had people and INVN 4K people and LIFE will end up with 5K or 6k at the most.
TW and Wingnut sold out at a fire sale price to Lucifer himself. Funny how the conversion factor from ABI to LIFE stock slammed the shareholders.
Throw in there that %95 of the mgt is from INVN and you have major incompetence of people from a small company who grew by may acquisitions and now are in charge of a company 2X bigger.
Also happening in MSN, haven't heard any numbers.
NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Life Technologies, the recently merged combination of Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems, confirmed for GenomeWeb Daily News today that it will close ABI’s corporate offices in Norwalk, Conn., as part of efforts to eliminate redundant operations.
The firm will shutter the facility in July 2009, and corporate functions at that site will be transitioned to other locations between this month and then, according to a Life Technologies spokesperson. The firm did not disclose how many positions would be eliminated as part of the closure, but several local media outlets in Connecticut reported that around 100 jobs will be lost as a result. Life Technologies also has not disclosed how many jobs would be transferred to other offices.
In advance of the completion of the merger, Invitrogen said in October that it expects $80 million in synergies, mostly from cost savings, in the first year after closing the deal. Part of those synergies were expected to come from corporate overhead reductions, “which unfortunately does include the elimination of redundant positions between the two companies,” the spokesperson said in an e-mail today.

Thank's for that. Best laugh in a difficult day.
I thought Carlsbad outsourced IT. they only had like 1-2 poeple on site
IT in Carlsbad and FC got hit by %20 for now.
Yay more conference rooms will be available. Mostly just marketing, HR, legal and MarCom RIFFd in FC. Some R&D, but not a lot. Sales and product management coming later.
500 Building at FC site?
The whole 500 building was closed and will be relocated to other sites.
Any idea what is happening in Brown Deer and Madison?
Anyone know who got the ax? Especially in R&D-director level? doo tell...........
Quite a few folks gone from Carlsbad, at the director and manager level, as well as a lot of R&D folks.
Welcome to GL's Quest to Improve the Human Condition. Not yours, though...
There was a big announcement at FC this morning. Anyone know what was said?
What's happened in Scotland and Belgium? Got friends who work there.
Grand Island, Belgium, Scotland, japan and china
Layoffs happening right now in Carlsbad, Camarillo, and Eugene. All departments and org levels being impacted.
Now in MD.
Things are very quiet, not usually a good sign.
I can't believe this deal won't result in significant changes to both companies considering the economic times. Where will the money come from to make this deal work?
i feel some nu metal riffs coming
>>Does anyone know which departments will be hit hardest?
>>What about in Foster City?
One would suspect that any duplication of effort would be eliminated and that people not in the Life org chart would go as well.
Life layoffs could happen sooner than later.
Where is MFG at a standstill? Seen no signs of HR anywhere in FC over the last few weeks. Is this just scaremongering?
Does anyone know which departments will be hit hardest?
What about in Foster City?
Nice knowing you.... what do you do again?
How could this have not happened?
MFG layoffs already. Production at a standstill to make Q4 inventory goals.
HR clearing out conference rooms for Wednesday.
These + the extra security means something big is on the horizon.
more security means .....!
Means "please collect your belongings, hand over your ID, and we'll walk you to your car. Have a nice day."
more security means .....! let's see. Here come that jolly Christmas layoffs.
I heard they're closing down Carlsbad R&D, they went over the progress over the past few years and couldn't find any.
Cant remember! But it was either because you named an individual, used a profanity, repeated a point, made an irrelevant point or the post just didnt make sense.
Its a tough job that no one appreciates but someone has got to do it!
Hey biofind why did you delete all my posts from this thread? The one about the proof of CB leading SOLiD and G3 R&D????
So - two weeks in and nothing much happened beyond the upper management levels.
Any rumours of closures yet?
a lot more security around these days...
Carlsbad, or one of the lesserLIFE sites?
If CB is in charge of sequencing, I'm buying shares in Illumina. With his record of "driving innovation" at IVGN, the Quest to Improve the Human Condition won't see any advances in sequencing technology coming out of LIFE.
Isn't that like rearranging the seats on the Titanic?
Nothing been said about letting anyone go yet. Currently rearranging the big seats. Would be surprised if there are any major announcements before Christmas.
How many people are expected to be let go?
Seems to be mostly IVGN people in the top jobs announced so far. No site closures announced yet.
It's quiet - to quiet ...
Sequencing business? CB can sure do better than the previous SOLID team.
It's going to get ugly next week. Lots of smart people (believe it or not, there are quite a few) already left without a chair at NewCo from the IVGN side.
Luckily they have CB to lead all the sequencing business.
