What reorg?

There is no sale....never was. Always a big announcement or fabricated venture close to end of each quarter. They are driving the stock higher through false statements and recycled press releases.....ignite institute, starlight, take your pick.....

There is a sale because if GL and crew back off now the stock will crash back to 40 or lower. The investors and board will be a little bit angry. All the signs of a sale are there.

1. Increasing the holding period then cutting of the ESPP last year.

2. Asking that employees take all their vacation last year then changing the vacation plan this year to mandate that all vacation to be used up or loose it. This will allow the new company to lay off at will when the post sale reorg happens next year. So much for being concerned about our health and well being.

3. The current company wide reorg that is going on now.

4. Not so subtle leaks to the press about their efforts to investigate ways to increase shareholder value.... might as well put a for sale sign

Yup LIFE is just about sold ... time to dust off those resumes because a number of people will be hitting the streets soon.

Absolutely, 20 years at ABI, LIFE I find myself lacking in many skills to start again. Never had time for self improvement due to workload, budget. LIFE was my life (right or wrong). I am still very sad and at a lost as to what to do next. The job search has been non-fruitful. I got a lead today for local work paying 40K-50K per year. I will need to consider that as it may be my only chance to get back to work although the paycut is very painful.

It's just that GL doesn't do boring. You don't get to do TED talks on boring. GL is more a M&A flameout kind of guy. You are correct LIFE has not yet monetized the Ion investment but without it they would have had to exit NGS all together, SOLiDs are being unplugged around the world. Lets just say Ion has a lot of potential... should command top dollar from Roche, GL hopes to get at least a two bagger on that one. Ion should generate enough juice to make to make the rest of this deal go down.

Correct again GL does not do boring and the rest of LIFE is not stimulating enough for him, however much money it generates. Very similar to Fat T in that regard, he sure sold ABI down the road.

It's not that Ion is not working out, without it LIFE would have gone down the tube. It's just that LIFE management, board / GL does not have the talent or patients to take this company into NGS diagnostics while at the same time growing a low margin slow growth business that is the rest of LIFE. Stockholders and GL want their money now and they were not satisfied with $36.00 per share. GL saw Roche throw all this cash at ILMN and it got him to thinking.... Find a buyer for Ion, "Roche", who will triple what he paid for Ion. Find another company, "Thermofisher" who is willing to take all the other stuff off his hands. I think it's a smart move if he can pull it off, just may not be so great for the employees.

LIFE paid all in, milestone payments etc ~ one billion and since that time has done some development. Ion / Proton is starting to get some diagnostic traction which is where all the NGS profits lay. Much more development is in the cards. I think Ion can overtake Miseq in the long run. Roche better get after it because LIFE /Ion NGS is a much better future value than ILMN and lots less money up front.

Roche walked away from Illumina at 6.8 billion. Presumably Roche has a pretty good idea on Illumina's financials. Roche would want a very detailed analysis of LIFE's NGS financials for a non-hostile purchase. If Thermo bought LIFE, would they really be able to off-load NGS to Roche for more than 1 to 1.5 billion? My rough guess would be that 90-95% of NGS data right now (base calls, not runs) is coming off Illumina machines (HiSeq has killed SOLiD, and most NGS data is from HiSeq). Don't get it. Why, in the absence of any M&A rumors, do the 2012 results justify a stock price jump from high 40s/low 50s to the 70s? Who cares about a "more than half of all benchtop sequencers" metric when Illumina is willing to report annual consumable dollars/installed MiSeq and Life Tech is still hiding these numbers for the Ion Torrent? Life Tech would be screaming from the rooftop if IT consumables / install were higher than MiSeq.

Don't get that either, if it was not for buy out rumors the stock would be in the 40s, it was climbing on those rumors all last year. GL and his buddies running front on the "leak" in 2013. Crammer 2 days ago said LIFE was a good buy for half at 64 and the rest on a break down to 60. He must be looking for big upside, maybe 75, 80?

Now that GL has let the "cat out of the bag" isn't he locked into doing some sort of deal? I mean, if they back away, screw it up the stock will implode back to $40.00 and the board will be unhappy.
