The people who were let go were the people with loyalty and enthusiasm- not the loafers. People who 5-10 years of employment. People who thought this would never happen to them.

Regarding 'contacting the EOCC"- here's how it works. You have to sign a legal waiver to get your severance package. The package is not great, at least a couple of months salary. Also, to cover themselves, if you are over 40 and laid off, you are given a list of the ages of everyone else in the company with your comparable job. And yes, you are likely to be the oldest. If you want the package, you have to sign off any rights to bring legal action against the company. Ruthless as they may be, they are not stoopid. You want to be a whistle blower, you got to pay the price. However, after seeing rounds of layoffs over past year, it is quite remarkable that a suit has NOT been raised. It is so obviously age discrimination.

Foster City for sure will be hit hard. Mainly R&D, Manufacturing, Finance. Heck, for instruments there is nothing new in the pipeline for the first time ever at Foster City. That means researchers and employees tied to new product or innovation not needed. If not let go this week, look for job loss soon after. At Pleasanton where usually 60 some new projects, now only 3 or 4. It is bad.
