Ion torrent has no chemistry at this point, Ion torrent has no software at this point, ion torrent can barely sequence 75 bp at this point. Ion Torrent has no Nextera solution at this point, Ion torrent has no Kappa library quant. kits at this point. Ion Torrent isn't really 50K when you see all you need upstream and downstream.
This is really a nightmare for them, they placed units, oh yes they did. Just watch the original Ion Torrent folks walk away next quarter when the sky falls on Lifetech. Feeding low priced instruments to cheap customer is going to be a NIGHTMARE !
If Ion torrent doesn't get longer reads = bye bye 700 million.
First day at AGBT, zero customer talk on SOLID.
Someone please find me an Ion Torrent library protocol...

I couldn't agree more - you read my mind. RIP Applied Biosystems - best company I ever worked for. If these Invitrogen idiots ever get off Twitter and listen to the people around them rather than their "word association clouds" they'd realize their declining numbers are due to stabbing AB and everyone proud to work for AB in the chest with their idiocracy.
I love Life Technologies but in the last year and half, they have been just all over the place
This I can agree with. Applied Biosystems was a great place to work...however, Invitrogen is a terrible, terrible company and the merger has been a horrible experience for all legacy AB employees.
Completely different mindset of cheap cheap cheap.

Sorry but if Hunkapiller was ever behind those, he would have apologized to all the scientists out there.

Stooge: Someone under the control of others. I know the meaning.
Most of the stooges here are under the control of the mob mentality on an anonymous rumor site.
No new ideas here. Just the same ole "Big corporations suck! I am great and have all these wonderful ideas but no one will listen! Why am I such a failure? The intent is never incompetence. ChargeSwitch was intended to become the market leader in DNA prep. They intended to become the market leader in antibodies. With ABI and Ion Torrent, the intent is to become the dominant player in next-gen, clinical and diagnostic sequencing. The problem is that there are too many individuals who have reward structures that don't lend to long term success of the company as a whole. Much like mortgage brokers, 5-10 years ago, their reward is to get the deal done and hand it off. So what gets presented to the board on a PowerPoint slide as a "high-temperature biological sample containment and storage system" ends up being a flaming bag of dog poo. And the person who put together the PP deck gets a bonus for doing the deal.

It's not how smart they are but their intent. Do you think they actively buy competitors with the intent of dismantling the aquisition if it does not add immediately to the bottom line...
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 27/01/2011 - 18:42.
I've mentioned this before but another dimension on this issue is how many of these acquisitions were for products and pipelines that were already or potentially competitive. Then after IVGN couldn't get them to work, or decided to focus on other alternatives, or just because they were satisfied that they had taken out yet another competitor, they put it on the shelf, shyte-canned some more people and looked for the next "opportunity."
Does that sound like anti-trust violations to anyone else?
