>>>Waiting for the age discrimination lawsuit re the last round of layoffs<<<
Nah, it's too easy to protect against that now. You just pick a sufficient number of easily replaceable junior level people to satisfy whatever EEO formula is currently in vogue and give them the heave-ho too. Then you can lay off as many higher salaried senior people as it takes to force fit a budget that appears favorable to analysts and ensures Lucifer gets his bonus. Then go ahead and replace the spare parts.
Some of the higher level talent that got fired in the latest round just staggers belief. Nevermind that any company benefits beyond description from expertise, judgement and maturity of experienced people, they shyte-canned many people with a long proud history of significant contributions - the chemist who developed the big dyes and who conceived and pioneered what grew into Taqman???? She didn't deserve a lifetime of employment even if the money came directly from the allocation for Lucifer's bonus?
Of course, as always in an organization where people are disposable commodities and those who attain positions from which they can direct these decimations are there because of their political skills and connections, not their understanding of or contributions to the company's success - even more stunning in many cases are the sycophantic boobs who survived.
Now let's hear the contemptuous dismissal from all the little toadies and minions who are gratified by evidence that they are superior to all the losers out the door because they survived --- this time anyway.

A lot of "bump'in and grind'in" happening at the meeting in Orlando. Sex on wheels! Meeting is a waste of time but the bar antics and managerial behavior made it worth the flight!

Still not enough of substance coming out if LIFE to know what IT will do. New sample prep process is pretty confusing. If you still need emulsion PCR after the 2 hours then it's still a long sample prep process. Also, how good is the actual data? ILMN have just made things interesting with their new machine - I wonder how the whole process will compare with IT?

2 hours from DNA to Library does not mean beads. You still need the EZ bead or a manual process. Library just means fragmented DNA with adaptors ligated. A process under 2 hours is nothing new:

Just get yourself data from a 454 run. Throw away 90% of the reads. Then, for the remaining reads, throw away the first (best) 80% of the sequence. There you go. You have yourself some IT data.

Looks like some managers will need to work on sales other than large sequencing order. It also took 2 years for M 'kool aid girl' C to figure out we didn't want to fight against our own reps for real time pcr consumables... Nobel prize winning decision I tell ya... If you could only listen to your reps once and for all... Now if you could only get that wasteland group of gene ex App 'scientits' off our arses, we could spend less time explaining 20 useless staff what to do with their time or what a Taqman assay is.
Finally, ditch that Attune POS (how many crapboxes have we sold ?) and go back to the drawing board with Open Array (or stop lying about it) and you got yourself a decent set up.
