"all of us contractors at foster city are going to be stuck working here as second class citizens and most of us will be out of a job by the end of the year."

Why would this be?

Because nothing good can ever come from working at a big corporation. Especially when they try and expand or buy another business. Everyone knows that only the low level working stiffs know how to run a company and the people who are actually in senior management are idiots.

....simpering simpleton, mealymouthed toadies, turd, Stooge....

Clearly you realize that your arguments hold no merit. Resorting to pseudo-intellectual name calling only makes you look more pathetic and delusional. I'm sure you feel vindicated with your juvenile postings, but the reality tells a different picture.

There is no conspiracy and Lifetech (or any other "big corporation") is not the boogieman. They all have issues and do things YOU may not agree with but, there is no secret agenda to screw the working man. You give yourself FAR more importance and relevance than will ever truly exist.

YOU would be the stooge here if you were even valid enough to even remotely matter.

Now...begin commenting on your own posts to seemingly validate your stupidity.

Great sales rep but it will not last because he will face a huge gap between personal med acceptance and his own investments. R&D costs on via7 was a disaster and released unfinished, the flow cytometer is a complete boat anchor, Solid is installed at very low margins and buffer back orders slow down rev rec. Don't forget the 1 B to ion torrent...

IP and contractual agreement is what keeps the money flowing and selling enzymes to ILMN ain't gonna last...

The posts complaining about the health assessment and insurance are all still there. What is this censorship you speak of?

Just a bunch of pathetic whining from people who feel entitled to more than they deserve."

On the contrary, you simpering simpleton, at least 3 of mine have been deleted and I believe some of the other recent commentary. Of course they were flagged as part of someone's agenda and I've already said I don't particularly care whose.

Do you deny that Life Techonologies and its agents are actively soliciting and collecting personal information about you that they do not need to have to evaluate your contribution to company goals - your "job performance"? Do you believe this is being done in the spirit of paternalistic beneficence and even if that were a sincere intent, do you think that is any of their business?

There are plenty of "mealymouthed toadies" in the world who facilitate, and many more who enable, this kind of corporate abuse but how pathetic is it when a turd like you expresses contempt for "people who feel entitled to more than they deserve." Who are you to say what people deserve, never mind what anyone but you "feels?" Stooge.

Now of course I don't know how the internet works but do you deny that every aspect of your personal privacy is under increasingly pervasive surveillance? Do you deny that the internet (in general) is being actively and deliberately used to effect this surveillance? Do you want to have a society wherein every stray thought and traceable action (i.e., purchases, reading proclivities, google searches on health symptoms that some "friend" has that you are suddenly curious about, etc. etc. ad infinitum) is captured in databases and used to analyze you and make projections and predictions about you? You think that is not happening? Do you pay any attention to (e.g.) banner ads that show up on web sites you visit? Have you not noticed that topical ads like this even show up on computers other than the one you might have used previously to explore a question of interest? Do you think this is "all good" do you?

he does deliver on earning

The GL remark to Napoleon is

The GL remark to Napoleon is pretty damn good. The only exception being that Napoleon didn't juice up !

The reason why they are

The reason why they are cutting back like crazy on insurance benefit is exactly to cover that one billion.
''Anyone with 4 neurons could have looked at Ignite's "facilities" in Q1 2010 (a rental office in a tech. park next to Dulles) and known that there was a very (very, very, very, very) small chance that Ignite would have 5 machines installed and running by Q4, 2010. It was more likely that Ignite would be hit with an asteroid. What's LIFE's current tally on investment in sequencing over the last few years? A billion? What's the ROI?''

And yes it is true, their press release borders on delusional when you look at the SMS program and Ignite. Everyone knows that inside but they just keep going at it new company purchases, bleeding them to the last drop, increasing margin until customers shop elsewhere and reps have monstrous quotas from hell (or do they simply offer them a low quota for next year in exchange of bonus cash ???). Someone has to feed their family in these times.

I also love the fact that the company has hired a genetic doctor, further proof that the CEO is on another planet. Is there anything of value we can look forward to from the application of genetic information to diagnosis and treatment? Yes, but the reality is a lot less sexy than the “right drug for you” story that is being hyped. That is ridiculous and slowly a lot of folks are seeing it, the data value is simply piss poor, very comparable to giving every person on earth a full CAT scan, it just doesn't help anyone. It overburdens the system, what little genetic test we have stagnated in the last 2 years.

Yet there is a CEO going on TED selling ice to Eskimos, trying to pump that stock rather than day to day business. In a way this is why I have more respect for Flatley.

So after every potential med lab has an ion torrent (and I am willing to say this will be minor, much like small labs do not buy core instruments anymore), does LIFE benefit that billion or even that original 400M ??? Tough times to come friends and the boys will protect their jobs even more, more powerpoints, more MBA coaching, more number crunching, more micromanagement. Zero leadership and zero execution. Can't wait to see Dr. Billings at sales meeting, blowing the 13th revolution our way before picking up his free shares...

Again, you completely pass

Again, you completely pass over the issue at hand, the invasion of personal privacy by your employer. "Buck it up soldier" and do what you're told isn't an acceptable answer. Instead, you resort to name-calling and personal attacks vs. deal with the issues. One could infer that you condone surrendering your civil rights for monetary gain - I guess you can't rape the willing. Corporations can be extremely generous to employees and their respective communities. Other's can take advantage of employees. No blanket statements can apply to all firms. My employer, a LIFE competitor, falls into the previous descriptor; LIFE, the latter. I enjoyed the six years I spent at LIFE (IVGN legacy employee). With policies like the new health care plan, I question how anyone could feel good about their treatment by LIFE's senior management.

So compensation (in the form of money paid into HSAs) is kept confidential from LIFE? How to they run their payroll? How do they issue a W2 at year end? They have to know who is getting the money.

I just find it sad that a company that professes to care so much about heath care has been reduced to this. It seems that HR's goal is for every employee who has a partner to use their partner's health care plan. There was a time at IVGN (pre- and post- IPO) that every employee and their family was covered by a health care plan that cost $0 per paycheck. And everyone that worked in those buildings worked for Invitrogen, rather than being sub'ed out to some crappy employment agency with no benefits. LIFE could still afford to do this, but choose to utilize their resources differently.

You're right. You could search high and low without finding anyone at LIFE that feels a sense of entitlement for having shareholders paying for their lifestyles. Oh wait, just search below the VP level...

Hey Goebbels, did you know that people are being denied HSA benefits if they have metrics outside specified ranges? This alone explicitly contradicts just about every one of your pathetic rationalizations and defenses of this company and your attacks on its critics. And if you think it is just a financial exclusion and not a very real blacklisting for any intention du jour you are even stupider than you hope we are.

Etc etc etc....

Too bad you didn't quote the whole post including mention of the health assessment, which might then have survived the next great purge. Do you dispute that this is censorship? Uhh..your "witty" health assessment post is still there. Despite your pathetic belief that Life is somehow censoring the internet, it doesn't hold up to the facts. Clearly you have a limited grasp of how boards like this work or you would realize the sheer stupidity of your claims. But okay....big bad Lifetech is censoring the internets. Cool.

Oh well, you just can't convince some people regardless of the facts. I've had my fun here so I'll leave you Alex Jones types to your rumor mongering and internet tough guy talk. Enjoy and have a nice Life. I know I will.

What's wrong with LIFE's

What's wrong with LIFE's sequencing strategy?

It's either based on a unhealthy dose of self-delusion or using "forward looking statements" to come as close to lying as possible while retaining a shred of deniability. It is now Q4, 2010. Starlight machines are supposed to be in the hands of beta testers. Has anyone outside LIFE seen starlight actually generate data? LIFE should, based on press releases, be finishing up the installation of the last of the 100 Solid machines at the Ignite Institute, booking millions in revenue and starting to milk that consumable revenue stream. Anyone with 4 neurons could have looked at Ignite's "facilities" in Q1 2010 (a rental office in a tech. park next to Dulles) and known that there was a very (very, very, very, very) small chance that Ignite would have 5 machines installed and running by Q4, 2010. Buy more and we will charge more, if your rep don't collaborate, we will analyze the run rate and squish them out every second year with an incorrect quota. And then they ask how the moral is, and flag you if you speak up. And then they print out that crazy glossy 60 pages love letter to the public about how responsible they are !

Is that you propaganda minister? Well res ipsa loquitur, nicht wahr? People have actually seen the posts before they were deleted. I don't know what makes you look more foolish, denying it or being in denial about the situation.

Now here is what should happen. Everyone who answered a question to the effect that their physical or mental health problem made them less effective at their work should make a note of the date they did the survey and file it carefully away. If any job action is ever taken against them, even an ostensibly unrelated "at will" RIF, they should initiate a class action ADA suit against the employer claiming that they reported a disability that impaired their abiltiy to look great at their job and the corporation never made any active accomodation and their dismissal is ineluctably derivative.

The discovery motions filed dragging all of this entire, morally offensive program out into the open will be entertaining for years. Of course neither the company nor its execs will ever suffer in any way, not even to the extent of its employess who will have to pay thousands per year out of pocket in premiums for the privelege of spending thousands more out of their own pocket for health care because the execs, well they have their own little health plan don't they.

Are you kidding me, ABI took 3 years to make a plain jane Real Time PCR that offers no advantages. Took 20 millions and they still haven't delivered 384 on it... BTW, huge R&D layoffs coming by the end of the month. Bye Bye in house next gen R&D when you can simply by a company, also sending solid to Hitachi will basically kill a few other jobs here.

Will IonTorrent acquisition

Will IonTorrent acquisition lead to dismantling of the Starlight project only or the whole Molecular Probes site?

Starlight and Ion Torrent are two different technologies and I don't see how Ion Torrent could substitute for a successful implementation of Starlight. The holy grail in this field is getting back to the point of allowing the polymerases to work the way they work in Sanger sequencing, incorporating 10-100's of bases a second, rather than the stop-start, stop-start, one base per cycle of Illumina, Solid, 454 or Ion Torrent. The fundamental basis of Ion Torrent seems to require a stop-start, stop-start approach if it is used for sequencing, since each of the 4 bases generate exactly the same signal. The only way to differentiate amongst the bases is to use fluidics to feed them individually to the polymerase. If Starlight is on its way out, it is because of difficulties with Starlight, namely having to constantly blast the DNA and polymerase with high energy photons to generate a signal.

Your stupidity is astounding but, you are right...it's a huge conspiracy against the working man. Again, I sincerely apologize that your dementia forced you out of Life Tech but I have to assume that you can find work somewhere else. Perhaps the National Enquirer or Globe Magazine? Your brand of extreme hyperbole and fanatical devotion to spreading half truths could serve you well in such an industry.

You pathetically stunning stooge (Perhaps a new catch phrase is in order as well - you've beaten that one to death). If your wit was even half of what you think it is you might rise to retarded.
