Yes...upgrade your 310 to the PC Version...should be possible, or not ? 3130 will be supported for the next 10 years, even if discontinued.

Speak with Certified Scientific instruments, in CA (or AMEBioscience, if you're in Europe). They are pro's, most of them are ex-ABI and they will help you on this

Expect more and more of this, as the "synergies" are rolled out. Look back at how well the Vector NTI upgrade was handled. It's all about the money, and nothing to do with satisfying customers.

I have to applaud LIFE. The data cooker felt the heat and got out but his new employer is onto his past and the sleaze ball department head with the cooked resume has been forced out. it looks to me as if the High Performance Team thing actually worked this time around. Now they just need to get counseling for the perpetually angry one and I guess car wash boy will have to do Johan's car instead of Marks's.

"The money from those grants amount to very little."
True, very true. Money isn't everything though, and LIFE inherited some bad karma from IVGN's past dealings at this location.
"For the $25,000 grant, Life Technologies would have to spend at least $7 million on capital improvements at the Frederick location and generate 50 new jobs by June 30, 2010.
"The company needs the money to be eligible for a $250,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.
--
"Both grants require the company to spend at least $7 million in capital improvements in its global data center and cell systems division.
"They also require that the company maintain its 271 positions and add 50 new positions paid an hourly rate of at least 150 percent of the federal minimum wage.
--
"Laurie Boyer, director of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development, estimates that the county would get about $348,500 in local income taxes annually from the 271 existing employees and an additional $412,920 for the new employees, assuming that the average salary was $75,000 and 58 percent of the workers lived in Frederick County.

"Of course I haven't a clue - that is why I asked. Do you think they will consolidate in legact AB or IVGN? I know yhe obvious answer is IVGN but could it be possible that for once it gets done properly?"
From what has been observed so far, there is a extreme chance that it will not be done properly. The approach is "maximize profit" driven which is not the best solution. INGN is swallowing AB and it has to reduce the size in all areas because AB is (was)the bigger fish. A minnow can swallow a whale if it cuts it into enough pieces. AB production sites will have their product lines moved and their property sold.

Asking that question shows that you have no clue! Corporate merger 101. First, the Sales, support and adminastrative people get eliminated. This is still happening. Second, consolidating products, plants and manufacturing. This has already been planned and will be the next step. It will happen "soon" as soon as they can do it.
