Bio-Rad stock goes up and down with regularity (it was at $120/share a while ago and dropped down to $90). That is a big drop... not 5%. It is moronic to look at stock performance over 1 week and make a judgement. Over the month, the stock is down 1.3% (Qiagen - down 5.7%; Life Tech down 3.1%; Agilent down 2.4%; ). By your characterization, the entire industry is tanking and we should all get jobs building houses (housing starts are WAY up).

"Then there are a couple of clueless and deadbeat managers, who only care about themselves and will throw their reps under the bus to protect their own asses."
This has always been a part of Biorad's management culture, but this year it won't be as effective for these deadwood managers because that approach only works as long as there is a significant portion of the force that is performing well to compare to. It's hard to throw 'reps under the bus' when all of NASD is marching to Bataan right now.

This culture of "feedback" at Bio-Rad is a bunch of bullshit. If they really care about what the employees think, then they should ask the field reps what they think about their managers and people in marketing. ISO team is a joke...they put a bunch of idiots who have no idea and no understanding of the business. No wonder why Bio-Rad failed along with a bunch of products! It sounds to be a good reason for another round of layoff.
"The Life Science segment sales for the second quarter of 2012 were $162.4 million, a decrease of 4.4% compared to the same period last year. On a currency neutral basis, sales decreased 0.9% compared to the second quarter in 2011. The sales decrease was primarily driven by lower sales in the process chromatography product lines as sales in these product lines are usually large and tend to be infrequent. The currency neutral sales decline in the Life Science segment was driven primarily by total Europe and North America, while sales in the Pacific Rim and Latin America increased.
The Clinical Diagnostics segment sales for the second quarter of 2012 were $344.0 million, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same period last year. On a currency neutral basis, sales increased 4.9% compared to the second quarter in 2011. Clinical Diagnostics had growth across most product lines on a currency neutral basis, most notably from quality controls, diabetes and BioPlex 2200 system. Currency neutral sales growth was primarily in eastern Europe and the Middle East, the Pacific Rim and the U.S., while the developed markets in western Europe decreased.

Bio-Rad is a mediocre company with a Pez dispenser management system. That is, one crappy manager leaves and his crappy report moves up to replace him. Too many lifers just waiting to get their chance at the top. If you work there your best bet is to go work for another company if you don't like it at the Rad.
All their grand plans of SPR, SELDI, and now digital PCR have been failures, capturing little market share.
Many employees will be in for a big shock when (not if) they get acquired.
