"How are the sales of digital PCR? They better sell a lot to justify that $140 million spent. Maybe that big spend was the final straw for poor old Dave. After all, he was not in favor of the purchase of QuantaLife.
Is it all buzz and no substance or are people really buying this thing?"
To know if Dave was for or against it, you must be on Bio-Rad's board. Oh wait, you don't know if it is selling or not... so that just makes you an idiot. Come to this post with real information, not claims of being "in the know" that are total crap. Also, I just looked up how much biorad paid for quanta life...you were wrong on that too. Give it another shot..... come on, lets see if you can get it right.
All that said, your last question is interesting (keep it at that next time)..... anyone with info?

Funny analogy
This QL acquisition is Biorad's worst f*ckup since that MJ purchase that resulted in that injunction thanks to ABI. ML laughed all the way to the bank on that one

"Being at Biorad for decades with little to no experience outside the company does not count. I think this is one big issue no one talks about. A large proportion of the senior people running the company are lifers who have not worked anywhere else, with no exposure to an outside perspective. You've got executive-level people running the company (LSG) who started out practically working the loading dock back in the day.
This may work at UPS or McDonald's, but at Biorad? Come on."
Agree! BioRad's issue is: owner don't know how to mamange company, so he and his son resort to their culture. Which created an horrible environment: imcompetent management, underpaid workers.

Yes I agree, there is little doubt, business wisdom comes with age and experience. If you look at the management of your company, even the first couple of upper levels in of your countries management and they are under 50, they have not been around long enough to be where they are. Under 40 and you really have a problem as their ego gets in the way and the gap between management and staff is removed from management such that those that have the experience get little influence. These young achievers strangle companies with their rash and egotistical ways. Bio-Rad is still learning this.

If you don't agree with the direction of your company, either work hard and move into a position where you have responsibility and the decision making powers that go with them, or find a company to work for who's philosophy aligns with yours.
The post above is correct. Sometimes you can't move into a position to change things and you just need to realize it's time to move somewhere where you can make a difference.
Bio-Rad is no different than any other medium-to-large company. Processes get screwed up and convoluted, and decisions are made by large committees. If you want to move faster, work at a smaller company or a start-up.
I left Bio-Rad precisely because management didn't align with the direction I wanted things to go. That particular management is gone now, and things improved in that part of the organization. It's your choice to move up and make change, wait out incompetent bosses, or get out.
From my conversations with current Bio-Rad employees, it sounds like there are still a lot of incompetents in management.

The vultures have been hovering over BioRad for years. Oh great Nostradamus... do tell why Q3 2012 is the magic date? Oh, wait... you must be Mayan. The vultures will be literally hovering over Hercules because the end of the world will be upon us. Is that right?
Great response, couldn't agree more. It's like this site is a magnet to every scorned employee the world over.
Seriously, if you think that you are owed a living, you are not. If you think you are poorly treated, move on. If you don't agree with the direction of your company, either work hard and move into a position where you have responsibility and the decision making powers that go with them, or find a company to work for who's philosophy aligns with yours.
The money you make is because jobs are not fun, they are work. If you are not content with this you have options.......exercise them!
Or we could all just complain about it here and achieve nothing!!!!!!!!

QL is far from a debacle. Sure some of the former senior management has left but this is to be expected. The product is selling well enough and taking Bio-Rad into new labs with it. I think whoever wrote the previous comments is a competitor and hater.
'Competitors' probably arent wasting their time posting here, They're too busy laughing.

'Mr. Schwartz passed away last week, not 9 years ago' – sounds right. About 9 years ago Dave passed the reins, as it follows from the BR press release:
“Mr. Schwartz served as Bio-Rad President, Chief Executive Officer, and as Chairman of the Board from the company's incorporation in 1957 until 2003, when his son, Norman Schwartz, assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer.”
