Abbott Laboratories (ABT) is planning to sell $14.7 billion of bonds in the largest dollar-denominated offering in more than three years as the drug and medical-device maker prepares to split in two.
Miles and Rick are getting ready to stuff their pockets! After the split, they are both going to retire after a few months. Watch their golden parachutes!

I did not hear of anyone in Abbott Park or North Chicago, though Molecular in Des Planes was hit (around 100). I did hear there also were layoffs in Ireland, and the top brass in Ireland were not at all happy. I guess they are not used to it yet.

If you want to get a masters degree, don't you have to have a BS first? Don't you have to prove you have this BS degree before starting the Masters program? How does someone get into a masters degree program without a BS? Did they BS about the BS? Rick, any comment?

A lot of old timers have retired this year, including me. Just not the same company I hired on with many years ago. Something in the wind, don't feel comfortable about the split. Remember the memo "both companies will evaluate benifits after the split", I think I will take what I have earned now, see ya.

I received a call when I was on vacation asking me if I had been laid off. The recruiter said Abbott laid off a lot of the PGD sales reps? Do not know if it is true or not?

We still have to provide bonuses to the executives and also there are some pretty special trips that must be taken (e.g. President's Clubs), so it would only be appropriate to dust a bunch of the pawns so those at the top levels can maintain on track.

Just came back from CMEF2012, the largest medical trading show in Asia. Abbott ADD was totally out of Asian market. All they did in the show was to have some young grils with miniskirt holding Abbott's logo running around the halls. Shame on you Abbott ADD.

Oh well, I guess upper management doesn't care since they will move along soon like Ed Michaels. This was a perfect opportunity to showcase ADD's diagnostics. I don't know about the ABT split (2 for 1) but I hear that ABT shareholders will receive 2 shares of Abbvie for every share of ABT when the company splits. May be just a rumor. Good luck everyone.

Splitting stock does not automatically make you richer. Splitting a $100 share into two, will give you two shares for $50 a piece. Splitiing stock is more "smoke and mirror" type tools companies use to simulate higher profits. Focusing on the customer will bring higher profits.
