I would say that most of the people posting here are just upset because they were let go. In some cases I would say you’re attitude is what landed you on your butts wishing your swipe card still worked. To wish someone would get cancer tells me that you have no class and you will drag down any company that hires you. Affy did lay off some good people but for the most part they did a good job of eliminating dead weight. Affy will survive. Once you quit acting like babies and start looking for a new job you will survive also.

I hope Shntanu Kaushiker is canned. He is the worst of the worst. The only reason he was at Affy as long as he is because he is a yes man to his superiors. He has no original ideas. He tries to get ahead by stilling the ideas of others.

I was one of those employees at Affy which was laid off but I have more talent than anyone who is currently employed. I built the support organization into a world class leader and changed the shape of the compay. I am the best thing that has ever happened to Affy and I hope Frank suffers from a slow painful death. I hate Affy and hope Frank gets cancer.

Affymetrix is no longer relevant in genomics. They completely missed the boat and have made to worst acquisition moves of all time. There is no talent left in the organization and are sinking fast. Frank Witney had done a horrible job in spending all his energy in acquiring eBio versus fixing the organization.

Andy Last is a douchebag! He has single handedly destroyed Affy and it was his bright idea to acquire eBio.

I must admit, it was shocking to me that I was laid off. Affy gutted the expression business and I was a critical part of the company. I was a key person who Affy treated like dirt. I hate Affy for what they did to me and hope Frank, Andy, and Kevin rot in hell!!!

Certainly they were good many workers got layoff, but some of those who felt they are indispensable got kicked out first, probably they can express the resentment here.

How long until Affymetrix completely folds? Can they survive for two more years? I would anticipate suffering for the next two to three years before the company folds or gets purchased for the little pieces.

There is NO talent left at Affymetrix and the reason the current staff is still thereis because they cannot find another comparable job. Old Franky is a good guy but he won’t be able to pull Affymetrix out of this mess. He ones fooled Affy when he sold Panomics to them when nobody wanted to buy it. He won’t be able to repeat that with Affy since everyone knows what Affy is all about.

About the recent layoffs, most of the idiots are still there. Only the hard working individuals got canned. This tells you where this company is headed.

OP had it right. Virtually every aspect of the failures are traceable both directly and in sequella, to incompetent, simple-minded, yet psychopathically conceited decisions by SPAF.

Affy fell in love with their technology and didn't think a credible scientific alternative or competitor could challenge their market position. Obviously, they were completely wrong. ILMN dominated Affy in the DNA microarray (GWAS) world. Affy was never a credible player due to throughput limitations of their platform which they attempted to address by launching the GeneTitan. Anyone who know anything about the GeneTitan knows it's a complete hunk of junk. After dominating Affy on the GWAS front, ILMN then attacked the expression business with low cost, "good enough" expression arrays. Overlay into that the advent of NGS and RNAseq and you have the demise of discovery-based expression for microarrays. Affy now has nearly zero share in GWAS (genotyping) and their expression business is in a tailspin due to RNAseq and cost pressure for lower priced ILMN expression arrays. Not a pretty picture. Now, the brilliance of the eBio acquisition is coming into play. The acquired business has failed to meet expectations for two quarters and there is little hope these milestones will be met. They are now running low on cash and are unprofitable, hence the CFO got canned in the last round of lay-offs. Affy is toast, rather burt toast.

The answer - Scientific infomation evolution. Affy did not move ahead or along with the scientific community. Telling old jokes or selling old elixers when the new are at hand is Affy.

Affy is now a noun meaning failure.

No diversification on the incredible wealth this one-trick pony had. Lots of guys left our company to join and chase the dollar. So the company is now in a challenging position. Happens all the time.
