BD will let go a major portion of their staff in Flakes and other locations by the end of September to "start fresh in FY 12"
and keep profits.

"The sad reality is most companies do operate this way. Greed has replaced corporate ethics and the value of employee loyalty. This has contributed greatly to the economic problems of the middle class. Unfortunately, corporate execs are looking only at their financial pockets and short term goals of the company and do not realize how cyclic their actions are and that if the middle class and economy continues this pattern it does affect their business. It come back around. Sad but I thought most companies in their goals/visions have social or community responsibility as one of them."
Very well said. Most public companies have lost sight of ethics and it highly depends who knows whom(politics). Many 50+ workers in technology companies are replaced with young people and this is reality. I am facing this reality and would like to find a job in non-scientific fields that I know will pay much lower.

You're wrong! Balderas is a suck slut.
Balderas is an ass-licker.
Balderas is an ass-licker.
The only surprise is all you
The only surprise is all you jag-offs that care about this has been, crap company. It's garbage. Worthless
And you find this surprising
And you find this surprising how? All companies operate this way now, BD is simply one of them. It's all run quarterly to the Wall Street bottom line.
YOu shoudlnt laugh at all the
YOu shoudlnt laugh at all the people getting fired. That's not funny. It is not their fault they got fired. BD has no loyalty to its employees whatsoever. They fire people whenever they have a bad quarter. They ONLY care about shareholders. ONLY. They always take the short view. ALWAYS. This makes them stupid as can be.
Penguin.
"BD paid way too much for
"BD paid way too much for Accuri.
All those people on the M&A team should be fired and killed."
What, are you the Master of the Obvious?
This is The BD Way.
The Dumbest leading the Dim....that's the rule....and by the way, your job is perfectly safe (wink wink wink).
LMFAO.

BD paid way too much for Accuri.
All those people on the M&A team should be fired and killed.
I am so very proud of this
I am so very proud of this worthless craphole. Accuri was BD's last mistake.
People like Balderas become
People like Balderas become part of management and their psycopathy becomes very visible very quickly.
Sadly many people get sucked
Sadly many people get sucked into the American 'Dream' which is really a nightmare. You get some nice house in Randolph, NJ, several nice cars, put kids through college where a degree no longer equals a paycheck. Debt, debt and more debt and then having to endure awful jobs like the ones at BD so you can maintain all of this. It's a sick system but again, many buy it hook, line and sinker.
I am part of this demographic
I am part of this demographic 55+, made decent salary due to many years of service. I believe that were the reasons I was cut. This experience had changed me totally. I no longer look at any company the same way again. Unfortunately, I have to look for other opportunities at much lower pay. Too young to retire and too old to start again. With kids in college, that really suck the finance dry.
Unfortunately this is
Unfortunately this is happening at most companies today. Just make too much money because of time spent with the company and can be replaced with someone younger. Unfortunately, this generation needs the income as their expenses increase at this point in their lives (like college tuition) and they may end up under-employed starting over somewhere else. Loyalty and commitment to employees as a resource has been thrown away with greed being the corporate priority. Been going on awhile, many years ago a manager at Sparks that it happened to commited suicide. I believe a college fund for the dependents was set up by BD.

Balderas is a complete and
Balderas is a complete and utter fraud. He symbolizes everything that is garbage about BD.
Fake.
Vapid.
Back-stabbing.
Kiss-up, kick-down management style.
Just a 50+ year old -
Just a 50+ year old - smiling, free spirit without gulping Xanax, putting up with a performance improvement plan, enduring a 30 something ladder-climbing t*** of a boss
Hmm. Sounds familiar. I fit that profile exactly after being told I am no longer needed after more than a decade. Now I am thriving in a company where everyone treats each other well and my work is appreciated. Screw BD. They have no idea what it takes to keep talent within their arrogant walls. Good luck to all the ones still left behind. I believe I am logorithmacilly happier than you.
Balderas is the biggest fraud
Balderas is the biggest fraud in the entire industry
Haven't visited this site in
Haven't visited this site in many months. It's 6 months since I left and thankfully BD is becoming a fading memory. I left my job at BD with benefits, PTO and a 401K to become a contract employee -no bennies and no PTO. No house, no mortgage, no family to support. Just a 50+ year old - smiling, free spirit without gulping Xanax, putting up with a performance improvement plan, enduring a 30 something ladder-climbing t*** of a boss. FYI - BD has a HORRIBLE reputation in the device industry and I have received many condolences for having worked there for a mere 3 1/2 years.
Another brilliant "business
Another brilliant "business decision" similar to the one to close the Oceanside Sharps Collector business and move it to Juarez Mexico, the murder and drug capitol of the world. The Oceanside business was in constant growth and met all defined business and operational objectives. But nevertheless the decision was made 3 years in advance to close the facility and outsource. Putting the local BD associates who were "required" to travel there" in serious jeopardy every time they traveled. Now that its been a couple of years BD has recognized the poor decision it made by closing the plant and have begun to bring product back to California. Funny thing is that bringing to back means not re opening the BD plant but having a business located within 5 miles of the former BD plant manufacture these products for them. Strategic plan to rid the BD monster of overhead? Didn't work did it Alberto, Ranjeet, Roberts who by the way was probably the mastermind behind this all anyway. You all rejected Ji's attempt to save the business in the interest of personal gain! Shame on you all for not doing the right thing and devastating the lives of loyal BD associates!
I agree. We have to stop
I agree. We have to stop thinking of companies as being logical. Big positive improvements in technology and or profits happen mostly in spite of how corporate leaders focus resources. This pattern is set.
I'm not really sure if they
I'm not really sure if they know or even care. Why should they? BoDs are making money and they don't care about the employees. But as I and many others did - if you are so miserable then leave. Easier said than done in many cases. But diligently looking for other employment will pay off eventually, even if it takes a year (took me about that long). You won't catch a fish sitting on your couch talking about fishing.
I sometimes wonder whether
I sometimes wonder whether management...or, more importantly, the BoD...really understands how deeply BD employees hate the company. It is incredibly destructive, yet they just go with it.
Is this Groundhog Day? I left
Is this Groundhog Day? I left 2 months ago and also worked for an Ice Queen. I can happily say that I've relegated her, the HR guy with his feigned concern and the Business Scorecard PowerPoint deck director to the dustbin of history. Life is great outside of BD! No looking back for me.
The D*** '* who try to climb
The D*** '* who try to climb over people to grandstand have no onetoblame but themselves for. Your demise.
Such childish maneuvering really worked out well LOL!
Go back to work and do something productive.
Well its hard to tell which
Well its hard to tell which t.... you are talking about because there are many Ice Queens in the place, but....like you I have resented the way I was treated for quite a while, ate me up inside. Because for a good part of my life I was extremely dedicated and loyal to BD and did my best every day to no avail, After two decades I got kicked out the door like a dog. You HAVE to let go. Until you do, you won't be able to move on. Only YOU are letting that t... get to you. She obviously has her own issues and is probably more miserable than you. I am finally happy and feel sorry for all those souls still in that building.
I generally pride myself on
I generally pride myself on being a moral, ethical person that does the 'right thing' (not in the vein of BD doing the right thing). However, nothing would make me happier than to see my ex-boss - the t*** with the heart of stone fall into a state of submission and despair. I hope every malady, every awful state of affairs, every familial and professional drama besiege that despicable Ice Queen. It's been 2 months since I've left but I come back here periodically to keep my Schadenfreud charged. I am never disappointed.
What goes around comes
What goes around comes around.
They are bleeding money soon the mighty shall fall due to stupid decisions based on greed.
Whatever
ose 45+ loyal workers they
ose 45+ loyal workers they kick to the curb every other quarter to avoid paying pensions? Do they even get retirement part tony
I second that - from my own
I second that - from my own experience.
I am so sorry for you. That
I am so sorry for you. That place was a soul sucking hell hole and everyone that I know that left voluntarily or involuntarily gets their health, happiness and soul back in a short time. I speak from experience. I wish you all the best and after the rawness and sting from being let go wears off, you will not believe how wonderful life can be.
I got let go after 10 years
I got let go after 10 years like a piece of meat. "BD is a great place to work"?? Yea right. Selfish scum in management
Management has never been
Management has never been held accountable for results at BD even down to the lowly directors. One of the great things about BD if you are a manager is the lack of accountability. Even the few employees that carry the business on their backs have been conditioned to expect nothing from managers. As a results any organization with half decent leadership can take a lot of business away from BD, of coarse BC doesn't meet this criteria.
It sounds like BD was a very
It sounds like BD was a very tough environment, with a lot of people who are just out for themselves. One person named here reminds me of The Fox in the fable of the Fox and the Crow.

BD Biosciences suffers the
BD Biosciences suffers the downward spiral due to systemic issues caused by top management over the last few years. The focus is not there to make innovative products and maintain the technology lead.
The hiring of David Shack as director was one of the biggest problems. He has neither technical nor management skills. Instead David hides himself by hiring more incompetent people (including friends from his past association). David should be held directly responsible for many of the recent failures and revenue losses. He has no moral compass and you cannot expect him to leave on his own.
The recent appointment of Alberto Mas as president has made the situation even worse. Continued loss in revenues and 3 layoffs in 1 year. This guy is clueless and destroying the company rapidly.
We never had IIGs. Boss had
We never had IIGs. Boss had us make them up a day before reviews were due in the fall along with our "self assessment" which was cut and pasted and served as our reviews. That's how this VP managed to buy Starbucks gift cards on eBay during work and take a nap at lunchtime. Then, this VP manages to shed 40% of his department as part of delta with no plan for those left to pick up the slack. This was the first of many more earnings misses, and hopefully the BOD will rid itself of the Trojan horse it hired 3 years ago.
Another toadie hired, A
Another toadie hired,
A lifetime worker fired,
In this quicksand we are mired,
Pretend to be inspired.
Another project slashed,
On IIGs you will be trashed,
Your soul is slowly gashed,
And hopes forever dashed.

copy all your emails about performance, tasks you are doing, anything relevant about your interaction with your manager, copies of your past performance reviews - interims if done also, history of increases/bonuses/compensation, track vacation time and any time off taken, conversations with HR you documented - leave no stone unturned as evidence with a competent employee rights/compensation lawyer. You may want to start consulting now with a lawyer, it would be an advantage and in your best interests.

To the poster who is
To the poster who is desperately trying to leave I feel for you. You said something that was notable -you are 45+ years old. They've been eliminating this age group actively the past few yrs, esp women. Chances are at this point nothing you do will be good enough, lies will be used as documentation and sooner than later you will be let go. If that happens DON'T sign anything! See a lawyer first. BD thinks everyone is going to go away quietly. It's time they got their arses rheemed for the way they treat people. And the others are right- other companies, mine included are NOT like this. No more sleepless nights, drinking too much and popping pills like many now at BD have to do to make it through another day in that hell hole.
Have reams of printed emails
Have reams of printed emails and my trusty thumb drive. Looks like the retirement packages have been sent out. Anyone who has the years and points should run as fast as they can out of those doors. Can you imagine the wealth of information that is being off-loaded? Yes those 27 year olds will fill the experience, product knowledge and wisdom void....
True, document everything and
True, document everything and make copies and bring them home NOW. You won't be able to access email and get your reveiws after you are terminated.
I hear the despiration in
I hear the despiration in your words. BD does that to people.
Network with former BD employees, because they all understand how it is there. Please don't write off all companies in the industry, thinking that they are all like BD. They are not.
If you're not already, collect every piece of evidence you can to support your claims of wrongful termination. Copy files, record your conversations with HR regarding your PIP. Get copies of all your past reviews, positive feedback and manager's emails, because if you try to bring legal action, those things often disappear. If you have evidence of wrongdoing, illegal or unethical behavior, collect that, too. Gather examples of your achievements, so you can have them for future interviews. If they do terminate you, you won't be allowed to go back to your desk unsupervised, so take whatever you need now.
Sooner or later, those jerks are going to slip up, they are going to get caught redhanded and somebody is going to make them pay big time. It might as well be you.
I pray that you will find a better job and brighter future. It is out there, and if you get terminated by BD, you'll see it's not the end- it's really just the beginning of something better.
