Half way through a pint with an old friend last night, when he told me that Dako had just had a major EU lay-off. Evidentally they decided to focus resources on the market in the american colonies. This follows the complete failure of their new "advanced stainer" (how they can use the term advanced with a dip-and-dunk is beyond me)
Any further info out there?

Ineptitude of an
Ineptitude of an unprecedented scale. However, what can one expect from senior leadership that has only one goal, to fend off sobriety at all costs.
The company just had more
The company just had more European lay offs, as a result of diminished sales and an attempt to sell the company, and is preparing the same for the USA. After the failure of their strainers and the TPID tracking systems, along with their complete failure to innovate they are about to become irrelevant.

Empty promises and hubris. Silly drunkards trying to pass themselves off as a legitimate masters of business and industry. Dr. Harboe weeps in his grave.

No. This company is a joke.
No. This company is a joke. laid off 100+ employes in the US last year now a ton more in europe! Operations is an absolute joke here. VP of operations C.B. couldn't run a doughnut shop let alone a biotech company... His underling managers S.E-T., M.W., etc. are as bad if not more incompetent then he. Jumping ship as soon as I find another job!
Sales and Marketing are a
Sales and Marketing are a complete wreck. Senior Mgt could not locate their arses with both hands in the dark and a flashlight. The BOD is better suited to directing candy companies and second rate hotel chains. R&D are stuck in the '90s. Very sad.
Why would anybody buy this
Why would anybody buy this company? Its not like they produce anything original or technically superior. I could make the same antibodies from scratch and their staining platforms are seriously outdated.

With Cruella DeVille in
With Cruella DeVille in charge, spending large and lavishly, while the "friendly ghost" cooks the books, this will be one hell of mess for someone to clean up.
That is not the half of it.
That is not the half of it. CM placed an inexperienced Manager in charge of the NA Sales Force, PR. She cannot even complete a sentence. Too many cocktails???
Why pick on Rosanne? At least
Why pick on Rosanne? At least she contributed something tangible to the company. She is clearly not the problem. The problems rests with the "commercial" leaders that are determined to mimic Ventana despite the fact that everything in Dako's history that was successful was antithetical to the manner in which Ventana does business. Do not take my word for it, ask any important Dako customer why they still do business with Dako. Or more importantly, ask the multitudes of former Dako customers why they gave up on Dako during the past few years.
I agree this is
I agree this is disconcerting. All know that Dako is a puff pastry constructed of jambon and putrid fish. Note: This dish provides better satisfaction if baked at home as the store version varies in flavor despite the pretty packaging. Best served with copious amounts of Akvavit after hand ball tournaments and the occassional diplomatic conference.
What is Dako... Are you
What is Dako...
Are you kidding!?
Company currently posseses a
Company currently posseses a few unique and very marketable diagnostic reagent products in the AP area. Credibility with even the most devoted customer declined precipitously in the the past 6 years. Sales targets have not been met in almost a decade. Several permutations of senior management have been unable to meet even modest expectations in righting the ship. Company in its current version behaves as a venture capital start up, but has been been around for over 40 years. Victim of shooting itself in the foot one too many times.

What is Dako? I did a google search and all I could find was something about kites. Is the company name mispelled in this string?
Roche 2011 est Market

Danaher 2011 est Market Value=$436B, EBITDA=12.28
Dako addition to either=fly droppings
Call Danaher and their
Call Danaher and their buckets and scoops. DAKO will make a good tuck in for Beckman Coulter. This will support Leica against Roche/Ventana.

Bumped into Erik Winther in
Bumped into Erik Winther in Vegas, he was attending a Lyle Lovett Impersonator's conference. He told me that he won third place in the karaoke finals with "If I Had a Boat". Anyway, he told me that he might be returning to Dako to take over as CEO. He also said that he and Jes still hang out at the lawn bowling club.
"How does Celerus get play
"How does Celerus get play from a post regarding Dako's quest for full-automation? Talk about raising a Phoenix from the ashes..."
Love the metaphor, certainly Celerus is a pile of ashes at this point. Celerus has repeatedly pitched their instrument as a successor to their Autostainer but, so far, DAKO has been smart enough to reject them.

I recently heard from a mole
I recently heard from a mole inside DAKO that they have made recent hires and are moving full-force ahead with an automated stainer for release by NSH 2011 in Cincinnati. Anyone else heard this? It also echoes a statement made by an account in Boston who said they were told by DAKO rep that fully-auto unit would be ready by year's end.
DAKO is a reagent house. They have no idea how to develop hardware. They have proved this multiple times. Until they hire some knowledgable hardware professionals and let them run the platform show they will continue to bomb at systems development.
One would think that it would
One would think that it would take 2 years to get something up and running. Remember the Eridan? No way this thing, if viable, will be ready by NSH...MAYBE by summer 2012 if it is in development...
Now why should Thermo buy
Now why should Thermo buy them? The AutoStainer is made by Thermo for them and it's being said that Dako will shortly no longer be selling the AutoStainer because it's being 'pulled'. That's why they've been looking at Biocare...Still not another good idea.
Been there done that. Dako
Been there done that. Dako is KING at selling products they don't have. Years ago they tried to do this with the Cytologix stainer and destroyed it. Then they talked about improving the Autostainer. Remeber when they were involved with aperio, they messed that up, aperio spun off on its own and took off like a jet rocket! If its true GREAT, but the BOND from Leica and the Newest Benchmark models are like two Rolls Royces. I dont see how Dako can compete with Danaher and Roche, just not possible. They should sell off to thermo or GE or somebody.

Dako belongs to a private
Dako belongs to a private equity. Rule is clear : make money. People are cost. (one day investors will realize that people create the money, not product themselves, but needs a couple of centuries). If the investor wants the money back, one route : sell ! It was bought 4 years ago for something like 1 b$. If it is sold for about 2 to 3 b$ : good deal !

I hear they are having production and QC issues with their Antibodies now.
I also heard they will be
I also heard they will be closing buildings and doing more consolidation in Carpinteria. That doesn't sound like a company moving in the right direction. They went from cream of the crop personnel, products, and service to an afterthought in the market nowadays.
I heard quite a few people
I heard quite a few people gone from both the Carpinteria and Glostrup facility. They are obviously stripping down for a sale, if there is anyone that will buy into this dog of a company at this point. They have old instrumentation and no new technology other than the CISH product that they have been touting to me for quite some time.
When did they layoff people?
