Those who can't don't help recovery
Jobs on the line, so says the cynic.
Good luck my peeps.

Uh, San Diego was on the bubble. But they got a reprieve for now. The part about laughing was meant, as I read it, to mean that they will be empathetic with those in other parts of the company who lose their jobs. So Doom is still batting 100%.
But thanks for playing.

San Diego is OK, Rinat is laughing.
Most people believe Doom was
Most people believe Doom was a R7 or higher group leader. The accuracy of his posts confirms that.
No one else here has ever come close to something like the post that opened this thread. You might as well have let JK issue that post when the time came.

Yes, it is pretty amazing. I
Yes, it is pretty amazing. I guess Doom is (or was) pretty high up in the Pfizer organization. Basically, his message is almost entirely correct, and filled with information that you couldn't possibly know unless you were well connected. This isn't stuff you could make up; either you know it or you don't.
I wish I had read Doom's comments before I moved from AA to GNL.
Hopefully, we will hear more from Doom soon.
Doom's predictions turned out
Doom's predictions turned out to be largely true.
The right attitude at Pfizer
The right attitude at Pfizer is to get as much as things to yourself as you can, no need to worry about the company at all.
And why not? follow the example set by hanky-panky!

Funny.. Those on the east
Funny.. Those on the east coast are not so optimistic about having jobs either. Cambridge folks are worried.
This is what sucks about Pfizer. They make everyone scared about losing their jobs, all the time.
Sure. All STL people have

How quickly you forget. RR
How quickly you forget. RR has been on Exec Team through all deals and voted to close KZO R&D in 2005 and AA in 2007. For him it's stricly business.

There are more groups than
There are more groups than biologics. What's going to happen to inflammation research in St. Louis?
It seems to me that RR saying biologics is safe doesn't mean that everyone is safe.
What is inflammation research hearing?
Rumor today is STL is
Rumor today is STL is history, and the site has been sold (signed deal) to Monsanto.
Gee, that must be why RR is grinning from ear to ear and telling everyone in biologics that all have jobs. He said he knios where but he can't say as he winked. STL is the place to be, and the only site where all jobs are safe.
Biologics groups in Groton
Biologics groups in Groton and Andover. Which ones are rumored to survive?

Madsion site is HISTORY!
I believe the third site will
I believe the third site will be Pearl River. It has the vaccines unit which falls under biologics.
What will happen to Cambridge? Where will biologics research be done? Will biologics research be split into two groups (would mean having two groups covering the same diseases, one for biologics and one for small molecule)? Or will biologics and small molecule fall under the same research group for a therapeutic area?
StL is one of multiple sites
StL is one of multiple sites for Biologics. Andover and possibly one other for biologics.... That's what we are hearing in the halls...
Dream on, the power of pharma
Dream on, the power of pharma lobbyists and their golfing trips flown on gulfstreams staffed by hookers will eclipse any complaints by voters or "do gooder" pharmacy groups. The politicians and pharma execs are laughing at you....
That means nothing many
That means nothing many others have tried to block the transaction, Pfizer is too HUGE to be scared by something like that..they just throw out more money $$$ The deal is set to close on Sept 28-30th, nothing will stand in the way of this merger!
Seven California pharmacies
Seven California pharmacies sue to block Pfizer's purchase of Wyeth.
Bloomberg News (8/22, Gullo) reported, "Seven California pharmacies sued to block drugmaker Pfizer Inc.'s proposed $68 billion buyout of rival Wyeth, claiming it relies on government bailout money from banks financing the deal and will drive up drug prices." In a complaint filed in federal court in San Francisco, the pharmacies claimed that "the acquisition will eliminate competition for certain drugs, lead to fewer supplier choices for pharmacies, push up prices for medicines and result in 22,000 job cuts." They contend that "government bailout money shouldn't be used to finance job losses." According to Pfizer, "the transaction may be completed by the end of this quarter."

"any thoughts on Wyeth
"any thoughts on Wyeth Research facility in Chazy, NY"
oh gosh, i feel bad for you guys, just dangling up there. The only rumors I've heard are not to good. It seems that PFE, farms out alot of the "routine" drug safety stuff. Good luck!

this is all about JK, power
this is all about JK, power and money.
scientists are not in control and can do nothing to change it
even another Lipitor would not be enough
ironically those that do the science and care about medicine are forcibly controlled by those who only care about money
how about you idiots stop
how about you idiots stop wasting time and discover some medicine...then we'd all have jobs.
um, it's called eliminating
um, it's called eliminating market share. Funny how you scientists think you're all so smart, yet you know nothing of business.
And for all you whiners about the corporate environment, you think Pfizer is so different from any large corporation, in any industry? Why do you think Dilbert is so funny, and why so many identify with it.
The real question is, will there ever again be a time in history when industry will employ so many scientists and be able to make a profit, as we've seen over the last 15 years or so?
Probably not.....
That is how Pfizer operates
That is how Pfizer operates they come in to anything they buy or takeover and rip the place apart. Strange how a company that isn't doing so hot on the books can come in and takeover a company that is actually showing a good profit..poor wyeth employees, no down side to wyeth executives they get their pockets full of cash $$$$$..thats no big surprise, the golden parachute
Wasn't a big surprise the shareholders voted YES, they get their pockets filled to the brim..chaaa ching..$$$$$$
Because Pfizer hires more
Because Pfizer hires more petty people, with no class, that are likely to complain on anonymous message boards
Dr. Doom, Any more
Dr. Doom,
Any more tidbits of info? Keep us posted, okay?
MRK and SPG have a deal
MRK and SPG have a deal similar to PFE-WYE, almost in the same time peiod.
Why there are so many messages regarding PFE-WYE (mainly from PFE) and effectivley nothing from MRK-SPG?

You cannot buy Roche. The majority stake is held by the family, and another large amount held by Novartis. Would need too many parties to agree.
My understanding was that the
My understanding was that the 50k figure was always on the cards, but the initial cull will be 19-20k, whith phased reductions beyond that until the final "lean/mean" Pfizer has been achieved.
When they're done they'll buy another company. Who will it be? GSK? Merck? Roche?
And whoever they buy, they'll destroy. That's their way.
I agree that the final number
I agree that the final number will be much higher. Pfizer says they're going to achieve the integration within 3 years, and I think that 20,000 will be gone in 3 years. I also believe that there will be a second wave of layoffs (probably after a 2 or 3 years), also around 20,000 for a grand total of 40,000. The evidence is in the numbers they cite for "restructuring costs", and the amount they've already shelled out for the 40,000 they've laid off in the last 5 years. They paid $7 billion to lay off 40,000. The amount of money they've set aside for restructuring costs (for the Wyeth acquisition) is $6 to $8 billion.

Time will tell whether they get rid of the appropriate bunch of folks to achieve just that, or whether they cock it up again and end up with an even higher percentage of people smugly walking from meeting to meeting with their laptops and extra battery packs under their arms, wondering what inane question they should ask just in order to make their presence known to whoever the most senior manager there may be...
headcount reduction of 20k,
headcount reduction of 20k, 30k? Now source indicates 50k! Ouch. Corroboration please.
