Groton chemistry

Anyone know how many in medchem are being let go in Groton or offered jobs in Cambridge?

Even with the reduced

Even with the reduced package, I think I am still better off than getting the axe in 2010 although I wish the Healthcare was better.

I really do miss Pfizer

Yes, BT is letting many of their true experts go, with the leadership expectation that India contractors reading from scripts can do just as well. Apparently it will take a $10 million f**k-up before they understand that losing control of their technology can hurt them very badly. Oh wait, scapegoats will be found and we'll blunder on.....

"In 2011, several NDA filings

"In 2011, several NDA filings were delivered from Groton. However, it is 2012, and it is about what have you done for me lately."

Yup, that was past results. And as you say, they are in a "What have you done for me today" mode.

I am gambling on Groton site going away. I've got 3:1 odds on it.

"Here is the rumour I have

"Here is the rumour I have heard, that the plan is... if Groton does NOT get something into the pipeline by 2015... its gone in 2016.."

Groton is a partner line support site. These lines are (and always have been) at the whim of what quality substrate Discovery (now relocated from Groton) and licensing can deliver.

In 2011, several NDA filings were delivered from Groton. However, it is 2012, and it is about what have you done for me lately.

"i know this goes against the

"i know this goes against the prevailing wind but in reality, Pfizer has probably hit its lowest point"

Yeah, it is against the prevailing wind. with the recent cuts I have become aware of (MTES ) Yes the BT 2.0 transition is in full swing with major cuts. What will be left ? Just a few managers. Huge cuts into the DBA and Web support folks (I know of 6 who are gone). It looks like they finally found outsourcers for those talents - wonder if it is HP?

Well, i see some talented managers going as well. And the current ratios (Income/expense/dividends and SEC filings) all point to a low 70K headcount.

Here is the rumour I have heard, that the plan is... if Groton does NOT get something into the pipeline by 2015... its gone in 2016..

I am part of the 99% and I was was laid off and I am making more money elsewhere and I am much happier.

"I'd like to make MORE money

"I'd like to make MORE money elsewhere AND be much happier. Is that asking too much?"

If you're part of the 99 percent that's asking way too much. Now if you're part of the One Percent you will make more money that you can spend and be totally happy with a trophy wife in your mansion, luxury car, big boat and vacation home.....

"People laid off from Pfizer

"People laid off from Pfizer frequently report they make less money elsewhere but are much happier."

I'd like to make MORE money elsewhere AND be much happier. Is that asking too much?

i know this goes against the

i know this goes against the prevailing wind but in reality, Pfizer has probably hit its lowest point. There are unlikely to be any more post reductions required for the forseeable future; by that i mean over and above the huge quantity that we already know about. The general opinion is that by 4Q 2012 we will be at optimum manpower. Further, the China Syndrome has gone as far as they want - Pfizer has achieved its aim - market access without giving too much away. Now what we all have to look out for is whether or not IR thinks another big merger is the way ahead and i cant believe he would consider it with the mess caused by the previous fiascos. One caveat to all this is our pipeline - we probably have 2 dead certs within the next 2 years. Is that enough?

"Anybody really worried about

"Anybody really worried about their payraise. I am more concerned about my job."

Don't spend any time worrying about your job at Pfizer. You will be laid off. It's a certainly so put it out of your mind. Just enjoy the raises you get and keep looking for a job at a corporation that cares off about its employees. People laid off from Pfizer frequently report they make less money elsewhere but are much happier.

"Thanks for sorting out that

"Thanks for sorting out that whole life after death issue..."

dont know whether the poster considers themselves "omniscient" or not but I think we all know that the insipid jerk who wrote the reply is a patronising twat with a PHd in self loathing. Word of advice, you may read The Onion and even try to mimic its style but you are still basically a twat. So lets hope that the "omniscient" one is correct because (1) no one who uses the word "omniscient"" in a sentence should be allowed to have a life after death, especially when they clearly have not had one before it and (2), i can't imagine anything worse than an eternity with such a religious subnorm.

I will leave the last word with you - no doubt being a religious fruitcake, it will be essential that you have it.

Why are you surprised? All

Why are you surprised? All of Corporate America represents a giant ponzi scheme and the CEO's and BOD members of the world are the quintessential examples of the fox guarding the hen house. If Pfizer went BK, then they'd probably quadruple his salary for "leading them through tough times".

They should all be rounded up and sent to a remote desert island with nothing but the cloths on their backs and a pocket knife. Then we'd find out who the true "Leaders" are.

The CEO just got his salary

The CEO just got his salary tripled for only giving away $200M on insulin from India.

So the reason Pfizer lost more than $1B on Exubra was because we paid George M and Peter C too little a salary?

"Of course, given that there

"Of course, given that there is no such thing as life after death or spirits, the whole thing is a piece of nonsense."

Thanks for sorting out that whole life after death issue for us. It's nice to know there is somebody here who is truly omniscient.

that story has been

that story has been circulating for a while now. Of course, given that there is no such thing as life after death or spirits, the whole thing is a piece of nonsense. But it doesn't stop some people genuinely believing it; i heard that RM wanted it suppressed as he feared it would affect selling price - of course, that assumes you have potential buyers stupid enough to believe or care. Perhaps it is the ghosts of mergers past.

It's probably the ghost of

It's probably the ghost of Charles Pfizer. Rod better run and run fast.

Oh I wish this was a joke.

Oh I wish this was a joke. So, turns out that Rod Macks house is ..........wait for it, wait for it.....HAUNTED. Nope, seriously - i don't know whether to laugh or cry either. Family members have repoted ' incidents'. One can only speculate.

I think the above quote from the Feb. 27 C&E News article about HEC Pharmacueticals explains why we lost alot of our jobs. Interesting reading.

"If there is a relo package

"If there is a relo package then why not"

i think that may be the issue. Its no secret what AZ is doing and would imagine we will slash our package by the same extent. we cant afford to keep people but we cant afford to continue being so generous when we get rid of them (HRs view, not mine). brutal reality. And like pfizer, AZ are specifically targeting those over 40, the group who are least likely to get another job. I had a colleague in AZ who has just been given her package. Relo was not even offered, presumably because she was 41 and considered past it. This is not about keeping experience and transferring it. This is about getting rid of the most expensive and giving the least in return. Dont rely on relo for much longer.

If there is a relo package then why not? Groton is doomed and there aren't any other employers there, so if you can collect relo money AND severance money by moving to Cambridge then go for it.

can anyone clarify what

can anyone clarify what actually happened in cambridge? I'm hearing inflam/immun biologists at all levels out the door, all ex-wyeth (given Pfizer policy, assume all over 40 years of age). Also heard that this is round 1 of 3 in 2012. Why is everyone in cambridge being so tight lipped on this? If this is true, then would anyone really take the risk of moving from groton.

Are chemists in Groton really

You're joking aren't you? In Sandwich, I was still hiring people right up to the 1st Feb last year - awkward conversations were then underway, explaining to people who had accepted positions that there would no longer be a site for them to come and work at. Just because people are 'hiring', does not mean a site is safe

The only questions for the

The only questions for the survival of Groton Chemistry is how much confidence does Pfizer research have in Chinese Contract Labs and do small molecules have a future in Pfizer? Unfortunately no matter how compitent or productive Groton Chemists are, they really do not control their destiny in my opinion.
