I hear that the Luminex patent will be expired, and there are some company want to imitate their beads and technology.

It seems obvious that Luminex is simply buying the beads from one of the bead manufacturers and then infusig them with the dyes - at least that is how their patent reads. Read for yourself if you like to know more. One patent number is 7445844. There are others. But why do you ask.

I heared that the beads of Luminex is bought from other company. Who know the details?

Luminex have GPP and RVPF, I think it can tell the doctor which pathgen is infected. But it should be concidered if it is a must to test so many target and how to explain the result to the patient, espically in China.

Depends on your perspective.

For diagnostics, compare what Luminex is offering to what is offered by Roche, Siemens, J&J-Ortho, Bio-Rad, Abbott, BD, PerkinElmer and all the other "real" diagnostic companies. Compare menu, time to first result, labor per assay, QC material, CAP results, CV values, LIMS connectivity, barcodes, reagent packaging and barcoding, throughput per day, cost of ownership, support, training offered, likelihood that your lab techs can execute the assay, likelihood that the company is around in 5 years, and past experience with company.

For research assays, Luminex does offer multiplexing, but creating the assay is far more time consuming than creating a traditional assay and the instruments costs are many fold more than standard instrumentation such as ELISA readers and PCR instruments.
