I'm told that PerkinElmer has gone from a great place to work to a terrible place to work in the past ten years. Apparently, they've transitioned from an open system where employee suggestions were solicited and welcomed, to a sneaky, back-room type company. Decisions about the direction of the business and market are being made by MBA's and finance folks who have no science or sales experience. Resources that were once very valuable to customers have been stripped and replaced by low-level telephone-based customer service and internet portals. R&D and tech support have been dissolved. The new president of LST is only concerned with covering his own lousy Caliper products at the expense of the most profitable PE legacy products.

Shareholders will be very disappointed when they discover that the round after round of layoffs have essentially gutted the most important parts of the company, and that there is zero innovation going on. The CEO ONLY cares about share price (he owns 500K shares).

Also, and as other companies are bringing manufacturing back to the US, PE is off-shoring at a rapid rate. Quality does not appear to be a concern.

The quality from things previously made in the US is WAY down! Half the installs go bad. Used to have great thermal products, TA is the way to go now. How did they make craptastic GCs even worse?

PerkinElmer is managers are laughing at customers when they ask about contract situations. Great service there!

We here at Beckman call it customer "harvest". Our product sales suck on soon to be obsoleted instruments so we kill'em on the service. FYI - Your wrong about who has the lousiest service, Beckman wins hands down.

I use an 3rd party vendor to do all my lab equipment repair and PM's. The 3rd party I use can work on Agilent, PE, Shimadzu, Waters... I was told by the 3rd party service engineer that PE is (illegally - fair trade act) not selling consumer supplies and instrument parts to any 3rd party service provider. This make it very difficult to for a 3rd party service company to repair/maintain my PE instrument(s). To get around this I need to call PE myself and order the parts so my 3rd party service provider can complete the repair or PM. PE has gone downhill in the last 5 yrs, they were scamming our lab by charging me $370/hr last year because we did not purchase a service contract. It also took a few day fro the PE service person to get into my lab to make the repair. I stopped using the when I found out all the PE service engineers make commission off all consumables and instrument parts they quote/sell. The PE engineer was always telling me some board or part was bad and needs to be replaced. Our company called a 3rd party service provider to see if we can cut costs and found out many of the PE engineers recommendation to repair or replace had no merit. The 3rd party engineer that services our lab equipment has superior knowledge and saves our lab thousands of dollars year.

PE sucks so do yourself a favor, avoid using or buying their SH#$.

Who really gives a crap anyway?
They have the poorest quality instruments of any manufacturerer.
The best Pharma companies either don't have their products at all, or have a one-sy two-sy and that's it.
Because they agreed to try one of their boxes, and ultimately decided it was crap
