I am searching for a reputable medical sales recruiter and would like to know of any experiences that people would like to share. I have had a few bad experiences in the past and would like to know how to make a good representation choice - this decision is really important to my career development! I have recently been downsized and want to secure a position ASAP.

You, my friend, are an idiot!
You, my friend, are an idiot! Job boards do not promise anything! They are merely a way to IDENTIFY current job openings, which you may apply directly to, IF YOU ARE QUALIFIED. It is people like you who expect to be guaranteed a six-figure sales job for your $40 membership fee that have no clue!

My company Zeal Sales does
My company Zeal Sales does medical recruiter training and my advice for any job seeker is to be your own recruiter. Executive recruiters get more traction marketing employed candidates. I work with job seekers in the employment ministry of my church and we promote "proactive networking" which is really just being your own recruiter.
Here are some steps:
Define your target job and list of titles you want to contact
Call them for information networking meetings
Pump them for referrals after sharing your search plan
Follow up and press them for referrals
Recruiters make 80-100 calls every day. If you aren't doing the same, you are hoping that resume of yours will magically land in the right place. As Rudy says, "hope isn't a very good strategy."
If you want to see live recruiting calls, broadcast daily, go to http:zealsalesrecruiting.com

I currently send out between 100 to 230 resumes/day and I spend about 8-10 hours/day looking for work to no avail.
In which case you are doing something dramatically wrong, that is over 1000 applications in a 5 day working week. If it keeps you happy and content, great, more power to you, but I suspect something is wrong if you are getting no hits at that output.
Good luck is all I can say.
Not only are the HR
Not only are the HR Departments in the USA too automated but also they are full of people who do not understand global dynamics. Per example, a person can have a PhD from the best universities in Europe, Latin America or Asia and that will not be seen as advantageous. If the HR person graduated from an average college in Mid America and has never been exposed to superior, world-class education, then, the foreign candidate will be at a major disadvantage. This may even happen to NorthAmericans coming back from studies overseas.
The people slamming the "fee
The people slamming the "fee based" job boards like MedReps and GorillaMed are only upset because their background is too weak to get them into the medical sales industry! If anyone can tell me another way to access hundreds of current sales openings in my city at any given time, other than by using one of the good job boards, I am ALL EARS!
Maybe some of the job boards are a waste of money. But, if you possess the correct sales background (two+ years of successful B2B sales experience), then both GorillaMed and MedReps are a great tool to get a job.

Also..PLEASE, PLEASE
Also..PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE:
DO NOT believe in any web site that promises you everything for a price--why? because those sites that charge for their services
charge a lot
and offer NOTHING but empty promises.
ANY SITE THAT CHARGES IS A SCAM! A FRAUD! A SHAM LOOKING FOR SUCKERS!
They will take your money and leave you
penniless, hopeless and used..
Don't get robbed by those web sites who promise everything and come through with nothing. Keep your money.. You will need it..
I currently send out between
I currently send out between 100 to 230 resumes/day and I spend about 8-10 hours/day looking for work to no avail. I have been in sales for about 20 years and have never, never found it to be so extremely difficult to find anything except crappy 1099 "independent jobs" that are not worth the powder to blow them up. I speak with various recruiters all day and I must agree with the comment that someone else made that you must understand that in the eyes of the average recruiter you are no more than a piece of meat to be sold as quickly as possible to anyone so long as the recruiter gets $$$. It is a sad state of affairs that we as a country find ourselves in, and unfortunately, according to all indicators, we have gione beyond the point of no return, especially in the area of job creation.
So, what's the answer? FIRST: DO NOT RELY NOR BELIEVE WHAT ANY RECRUITER TELLS YOU. Recruiters DO NOT work for you, they are the hoars of their clients. If you are attractive to them, they will pester you, but if you are of no use to them, your calls will never be returned.
SECOND: DO WHAT THE RECRUITERS ARE DOING--CALL THE COMPANIES YOURSELF! CALL THE HR DEPTS, GO ON AS MANY COMPANY WEB SITES AS POSSIBLE--EXPAND YOUR SEARCH. Do a google search for companies similiar to the one you want, find the SIC codes and then do a reverse search.
THIRD: Think of everything you could be doing to get a job...and then think of more things that could be done. If performed correctly, at least 6-10 hours will be spent every day in this endevor. Check "OYAS" web site.
Using this Recruiters Boards
Using this Recruiters Boards is more effective than sending your Resume to the HR Department. HR Departments are highly automated and/or outsourced or poorly staffed and they project a "black hole" image. Resumes are emailed to them but no human response is received. You are not considered and no explanation is given. It's like "other candidates are more qualified", "your qualifications are impressive but...", etc, etc. Still, the most effective way is to contact a hiring Manager.

Recruiters don't work for
Recruiters don't work for you, they work for the companies that hire them to find talent.....a serious misunderstanding by most job seekers.
However, when I received a really impressive resume without a job order, I would proceed with a phone call and then an in person interview. If the candidate is truely exceptional, I would sometimes 'market' them to my company contacst (with their permission of course).
Just be sure you let the recruiter know that you need to fully understand the opportunity before putting your name forward.
Advice from a former executive recruiter.....by the way, that's a tough business these days!
