"trains" is a loose definition, it implies some real investment. Siemens do EVERYTHING to the LOWEST common denominator, EVERY TIME without fail, dire training is their greatest speciality.
The irony is that the legions of managers that justify and busy themselves searching out the very cheapest, minimalistic, ineffective and useless solutions - themselves cost the company more than a decent solution would. Let alone the cost implications of the inefficiency they inflict on other.
The tracking devices are because someone cannot be trusted, therefore in Siemens philosophy, no one can be trusted - we must all be dragged to the lowest level. A 'normal' company would just manage the errant few.
Comes to this, if you want stability and security work for the big ones like Siemens. If you want respect, imagination and some flair in your management, if you can afford a level of risk, work for a small company. Sadly they are mutually exclusive these days.

summary : Siemens trains all of it service personnel on at least 8 products each, therefore ensuring unless you have the memory of Einstein you look like a twat in front of the customers, therefore driving moral down even more. Along with a stupid device that is used for allegedly monitoring you mileage but it doesn't its just a tracking device to allow the management to self-flagelate themselves over.

Ah yes... you refer to the highly honed, multi skilled cross trained, cross dressing, usually cross eyed beast that is the Siemens FSE.
We take an experienced expert engineer, empty out half the stuff he has learnt over years and fill it with a 5% chunk of knowledge of each of 10 other products.
This saves a lot of money as the engineer is bound to always be right next to something that needs fixing (if only he could recognise it!), best of all it will take 3 visits instead of 1 and a bucket of expensive parts chucked at it to sort it - for which we can bill the lovely customers... ker-ching! Thank you.
Sure sends those customers scuttling for an all-inclusive!
OF course the most important asset to Siemens is its people, for without them we are nothing. We have total confidence they are not stressed at all by being bundled out the door half trained, one fiftieth experienced, one tenth equipped. They will soon learn after 15 hours on each fix. All those people leaving were just selfish, being concerned just about their families tut-tut, think of the company first!
