Werfen Decides to End Beckman Coulter Hemostasis Alliance

BREA, Calif. — (May 7, 2012) — After two decades of successful collaboration providing optimal testing solutions for laboratory customers, Werfen Group, the parent company of Instrumentation Laboratory, has decided to end its alliance with Beckman Coulter. The partnership remains in effect until June 22, 2012, when the current contract expires.

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics President Tom Joyce says, "Beckman Coulter would have preferred to continue this agreement; while we’re disappointed by Werfen's decision, we remain committed to providing excellent support for our hemostasis customers during the remainder of the partnership."

He adds, "Until June 22, 2012, it is business as usual for our customers. Customers should continue to contact Beckman Coulter for sales, service and support through June 22, 2012."

News flash - a great many of

News flash - a great many of the better BEC service folks are no longer with BEC. The ones that remain have been pushed to the edge by DHR and are ready to jump. IL will have no problem recruiting the best of whats left. Both DHR/BEC and IL knew about the split last year. IL has have had plenty of prep time. Give the names of your good BEC service reps to IL and they will hire them ASAP.

I must agree that I am

I must agree that I am worried about IL being able to provide proper service. Our Beckman service has beed exceptional. We just came from Seimens and now have Roche for chem. Seimens service was ok but Roche is a joke. We have an lab pool to see how many times it will take the engineer to resolve the issue. We would have went with the Beckman au product line but was just out of my budget. I am not sure I would have went the IL if I would have seen this coming.

"Debido al incremento de

"Debido al incremento de Danaher en sus productos 9%, es imposible competir en el mercado europeo y particularmente en el español, donde no solo no suben los precios sino que bajan debido a la fuerte crisis existente"

Not so fast. If DHR wanted to they could adjust prices. Maybe DHR wants to just go it alone.

If you like the service you

If you like the service you get from DHR/BCI your standards are very very low! Understand though the bean counters at DHR are at fault not the BCI service techs.

We like our Tops instrument

We like our Tops instrument and our BCI engineer. Im concerned that IL cant keep up.

Instrumentation Laboratory Moves To Direct Distribution Of Hemostasis Product Line In North America
IL's Leadership in Hemostasis Market Enables Transition to Direct Business Model -

BEDFORD, Mass., May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Instrumentation Laboratory (IL) today announced that their Strategic Alliance Cross-Distribution agreement with Beckman Coulter (BCI) will terminate June 22, 2012, after more than twenty successful years. Beginning June 23, 2012, IL will initiate direct sales, service, support and marketing to end-user customers in the U.S. and Canada, for their own Hemostasis product line, including the HemosIL® line of reagents, ACL TOP® Family of Hemostasis Testing Systems, ACL ELITE®/ELITE PRO analyzers and other ACL® systems.

The transition will allow IL to apply the same direct business model employed in their Critical Care business, for over fifty years, to their Hemostasis product line. Closer proximity to the customer means IL can quickly respond to changing needs, continuously improve the quality of their products and services, expedite innovation to Hemostasis labs, and reduce complexity of operations. R&D and Manufacturing for all of IL's Hemostasis analyzers and reagents, along with their world-class Hemostasis expertise, reside at their headquarters in Massachusetts and New York.

"IL has achieved significant growth in Hemostasis, culminating in the attainment of the number one market share position worldwide, thanks to our focus on quality and innovation," said Ramon Benet, CEO at IL. "Now is the ideal time for us to apply our expertise, resources, and world-class service organization to working directly with our Hemostasis customers in North America, and focus on ensuring a smooth transition for our customers."

Up to and including June 22, 2012, Hemostasis customers and customer organizations will continue to contact BCI directly for service, support and products. IL Customer Service is available now, at 1-800-678-0710, option 2, or at ILresponse@ilww.com to address any questions.

"We have incredibly strong relationships with our customers in Critical Care testing, because our direct sales, service and support groups are second to none," said Brian Durkin, Vice President, Commercial Operations, North America at IL. "I am certain that we will forge similar partnerships with our Hemostasis customers, providing them outstanding support, and an uninterrupted workflow in their laboratories during this transition."

IL will honor all customer contracts, including end-user and Group Purchasing Organization agreements. All current pricing, terms and conditions will remain in effect through the term of any existing agreement.

Today, IL is the number one manufacturer of instruments and reagents for the Hemostasis market worldwide. Since the introduction of the first fully automated Hemostasis analyzer, the ACL® 810 in 1985, IL has continuously introduced innovative instruments and reagents to hospital and specialty labs, culminating in the release of the ACL TOP Family of Hemostasis Testing Systems. This line of fully automated analyzers is the leading Hemostasis product line in the world. The Company has strong, established relationships with key scientific and industry leaders in Hemostasis, and has always been the source of technical, scientific and field service expertise.

They(IL)have been nothing but

They(IL)have been nothing but trouble for BCI to deal with over the years. Happy to see them go away!

What, did IL expect BCI to be a competent compamy?

Did IL expect BCI to stay clear of the FDA?

Is it official, has BEC started its death spiral?

I fully agree

I fully agree

Awwww sounds like someone is

Awwww sounds like someone is sore.... Why could BCI never reach #1 in USA? But IL did in the rest of the world going direct... The facts speak for themselves. Countless customers would agree that IL provides excellent support, BCI does not. Customers are #1.

So they lose overseas

So they lose overseas distribution and support for flow products while improving the bottom line of the number 1 company in hemostasis as it goes direct in the US. Going to get warm in Miami.

and so it begins...

and so it begins...

Hopefully the above person

Hopefully the above person doesn't work for the BCI coagulation division because that's a dumb statement that hes glad to see them [IL] go away,he can bend over and kiss his job away and so can 15% of BCIs employees when you lose the IL product line.Think of all the Field service and support that handles that product.

I´m totally disagreement with

I´m totally disagreement with tom oyce says,
I´m a Technician in Werfen(Izasa) Spain and it is my opinion:
Werfen have been working with BC many years and Werfen never didn´t like broke off the alliance, the problem is Danaher.
Some months ago, Danaher gave Werfen an offer to buy them, but Werfen didn´t like.
The Danaher´s plans are weaken Werfen (IL) in order to buy then, how?
Last meetings between Werfen and Dahaner, Danaher has increased the price of the BC instrument to reduce the Werfen´s benefits. In this Situation, Wefen can´t sell the instruments with enough margin and this situation would be good for Danaher( in order to buy then). In this point, Werfen has decided don´t continue with the alliance.

They(IL)have been nothing but

They(IL)have been nothing but trouble for BCI to deal with over the years. Happy to see them go away!
